Gas on Empty?

Just because you pick a bunch of hipo parts out of a Summit catalog, it does not make you an engineer.

in older Fords ('97 and older) the fuel pickup only goes up to about a 1/4 tank, if you go below that you have a higher risk your fuel pump burning out prematurely because the fuel pump is having to work harder because it doesn't have as much flow pressure. This may be what he is talking about.

Yeah righhhhttt. After market parts for IH engines. SURRREEE. Everything we do is CUSTOM, there are no aftermarket parts available from any company..

Cars do NOT get better gas mileage above 1/2 tank. Car manufacturers DO purposely rig fuel gauges to read inaccurately and drop slowly at first, so that the 1/2 tank line in most cars is really more about 1/3 tank.

You don't design engine parts. Get over yourself.

You might run and maybe even program a CNC lathe/mill, but you don't sit at the computer and design engine parts & then fabricate the said parts.

You haven't even been to school yet. Give me a break.

I'm seventeen years old and know more about cars then the majority of you guys here... that's pretty sad, considering I don't even drive yet! (No car, meh)

First of all, there is no real harm in driving a car down to below 1/2 a tank of gas... the only thing that would harm a car is if you completely RAN OUT of gas... so you should prolly fill up at 1/8 of a tank or earlier (earlier if you want to make sure you don't run out if you have an emergency or something)...

One other thing I think no one has mentioned is that if your tank is 1/2 full as opposed to full, you'll get SLIGHTLY better mileage due to the lessened weight of the car (and slightly better accel, more effect the larger the gas tank). So in terms of mileage, it might help minimally not to fill up all the way. What my friends usually do is just buy $5 or $10 worth of gas unless they're at <1/8 of a tank. Doesn't really save money, but oh well... makes it seem like you're spending less...

Mah. I didn't say I design the parts. We adapt them. We have all of our parts made by Dave at dlhmachine. He MADE a set of pistons for us before, along with numerous rods, and cranks that came from diffent apps, the he offset ground to the correct side.

I know it is harder to start a FI engine that have ran dry than a carbed one. At least it used to be that way. Other than that there is no harm.
If you have lots of condensation in the tank it might be a problem.

You can be an engineer, you just can't bill yourself out as an engineer in the USA and some other countries unless you have a valid license, which usually requires coming from a valid 4 year university.
