1.15 a gallon? That's a PIPE DREAM. Gas hasn't been that low since before I started driving, 3 years ago. I was buying premium for $1.60 back then, so regular was around $1.30 at least. I'll be happy if it gets back down to about $2 a gallon for regular. As it stands, I paid $2.45 for my last tank, and that makes my load alot easier. I've got a 54 mile round trip commute 3 days a week for school.

Gas was as low as .89 a gallon in 1999 for quite a few months at a time when oil was $11 a barrel.

While it is far fetched, it's not as much of a pipe dream as you may think.

Eh? I'm not a fan of high prices but didn't the oil companies simply raise prices in order to keep the same profit margin?

$1.15 a gallon would be kickass. I'd be doing burnouts every time I left from a stop.

well, if we wanted to increase efficiency, inter-city long-haul freight should be shipped via railroad instead of truck. but we don't really have a north-south trunk system (it runs east-west, for the most part). so, lots of goods have to move via truck. a few new trunk lines running north-sourth would be great.

I'll eat my carbon fiber road bike if we see gas prices as low as $1.15 again.

Premium is still over $3/gallon here.

Excuse me, Good News?

Where? Thought that's only a Bible class thing.

It's absolutely the worst thing for this Country if Gas goes back to $1.15.

I would step in and immediately place an 85 cent tax to change the infrastructure of filling stations to Hydrogen.

Put me in coach and make it so.

Which is it Dave?

You bitch about high gas prices but think them dropping is bad.

You claim to not have $50/month for investment/retirement planning yet you go buy a new Canon digicam.

Out of all the other possible bad things that could happen to this country, something that would make our lives and the goods we buy more affordable is the "absolutely worst thing for this country"?

Wow...just wow.

I agree. While it would be nice when filling up, it would only worsen our dependancy and will just make things worse in the long run.

Did you happen to notice the part where I had not bought a new Cam since the A40 came out?

Did you happen to notice the part where I had $200 in Best Buy cards for my efforts during Hurricane Katrina and I waited all this time to use them to get this new Canon?

Did you happen to notice that gas dropping to $1.15 will not help lessen the U.S. "addiction to Oil" in the words of your hero?

So damn right I'm bitching and I have worked hard for that camera.

I can't see this happening....and actually i think it would be foolish. People would probably waste it and then we'd be back up at $3 again. Why can't we just maintain at like $2 a gallon or something reasonable. Stop this up and down crap.

Good point.. when I first read the thread I didn't think about that.

Oil companies: hey, were gonna lower gas prices to $1.15! (so you can stop coming up with alternative solutions)
Consumers: yay!

Years later:
Oil companies: sorry about that, we're, uhh, we're "running low" on oil.. since you all used so much when the price was lowered... so gas is going up to $6 a gallon
Consumers: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Gas is 2.25/gal here, 2.45 for V-Power. It dropped for around 2.89 in the matter of a couple days here.

Abdallah S. Jum?ah, president and CEO of the state-owned Saudi Arabian Oil Co., known better as Aramco, said the world has the potential of 4.5 trillion barrels in reserves - enough to power the globe at current levels of consumption for another 140 years.

Jum?ah challenged oil ministers and petroleum executives at an OPEC conference in Vienna to step up exploration ?and leave the minimum amount of oil in the ground.

Yes, we still need to continue research of more efficient usage of energy but there's no reason to start pushing the panic button.

If the enviro-nuts would get their heads out of the sand than we could generate plenty of power for our needs. Unfortunately, they've turned into BANANAs (Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anything) and would rather see our economy ruined than to see another oil platform or power plant built.

Texas is going to start building new clean coal-fired power plants soon (my dad will be going there to work on one of them). Did you know that the enviros don't want Texas to build these? This despite the fact that if Texas doesn't build new power plants, they'll be experiencing brown-outs and increased energy prices across the state in the next couple of years? How is this reasonable?
