Want gas to go down? Convince me to purchase some futures :D

but really... in about 20-30 years gas will be much closer worthless than it is right now... (oil sand drilling developments, alternative fuels, cold fusion :)P) etc.)

High prices helps. It makes the oil companies unnecessarily rich, but it seems to be the only thing causing lazy Americans to buy gas-sucking SUV's and cart only their own fat ass everywhere. God forbid they consider the safety of other motorists, unnecessarily polluting, and general wastefulness as reasons to travel more economically.

If someone can get people to make more economical vehicle choices without making the damn greedy oil companies rich, I'm all ears. Till then, high gas prices certainly do that ;)

Personally, I dont care what you think, because if you cant realize that not everyone can live an environmentally friendly cookie cutter life (1 kid, office job) like you, you've got bigger problems. The fact is that usage of energy is inefficient and overall we cant live without it. Enviro-freaks like you don't help because your policies drive costs high and stifle the progress of research. Instead of complaining about americans driving SUVs perhaps you should figure out how to make your fat lazy ass live without electricity... God forbid you consider the safety of the people and animals who are forced to live within the electromagnetic fields you facilitate, the unnecessary light pollution you create, and the general wastefulness of land devoted purely to creating and distributing electricty.

If someone can get people these anti-energy hypoctical morons to have more reasonal expectations without making the damn funeral homes rich, I'm all ears. Till then, Lots of sarcastic replies to their stupid ideas will keep them in check.

Coal power is not clean...period. They should build nukes, natural gas, solar, or wind instead. Coal power is just a bad idea.

There is a good likelihood that the commodities bubble is about to pop, and that includes oil and gas. It's wait and see right now, but the wind is blowing in that direction. $1.15/gal. seems awfully low to me, but I do expect gas to drop below $2/gal this winter, and for prices to be lower next year than they were this year.

Where? Thought that's only a Bible class thing.

It's absolutely the worst thing for this Country if Gas goes back to $1.15.

I would step in and immediately place an 85 cent tax to change the infrastructure of filling stations to Hydrogen.

Put me in coach and make it so.

I agree. While it would be nice when filling up, it would only worsen our dependancy and will just make things worse in the long run.

Good point.. when I first read the thread I didn't think about that.

Oil companies: hey, were gonna lower gas prices to $1.15! (so you can stop coming up with alternative solutions)
Consumers: yay!

Years later:
Oil companies: sorry about that, we're, uhh, we're "running low" on oil.. since you all used so much when the price was lowered... so gas is going up to $6 a gallon
Consumers: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

When will people realize the oil companies have virtually NOTHING to do with the price of oil? Oil is a commodity and it's price controlled by the market, and the supply is controlled largely by supplier cartels like OPEC.

Clean-coal technologies are pretty remarkable, although without it, yeah, coal is probably the most toxic form of energy we can get.

Probably never. Those who consider themselves to be victims require a tormentor. In the absence of one, they will create one.

The latest coal power plants use a mixture of scrubbers and other technology to produce relatively clean energy. Granted, it is not as clean as nuclear power plants but the enviros won't let us build those. Nuclear power is eeeevil man.

Can't build wind farms because birds might fly into the blades. Enviros don't like birds flying into wind farm blades....that is when they aren't blocking the view at the Kennedy Compound (Not to mention that the wind farms probably won't produce enough energy to meet Texas' needs).

Can't build natural gas since the supply of natural gas is tight because enviros won't let us drill for natural gas even 50 miles off the coast of Florida. Natural gas keeps getting more expensive every year as more plants are built and the supply gets tighter.

So yeah, when Texas is faced with a looming energy shortage, where else are they going to turn for power?

Even if you manage to scrub out the bajillion contaminants that make coal so dirty and get down to the pure carbon, you're still emitting more CO2 per energy unit than ANY other fuel.

It was just an over-simplified anecdote. No need to get upset.

What enviro fundys dont get... is there is no "clean" efficient energy.
According to the laws of thermodynamics... the use of energy is inefficient and pollution producing.

I love it when they say... but solar power is clean....

BUUUULLLLL-SHEEET...

Most of the toxic effects and pollutants are local to where the energy is created, and it is transmitted very far to us.

Even after Hurricane Katrina. It's all been 110% bullcrap.

It's already $2.19 all over town, and I put $40 in the truck to fill it up at $2.14 last week. I really don't think think I see $1.15 happenin' either.
