Garden State

Saw the preview for this in theatres a few weeks back and was just watching the trailer a few times right now. This movie looks like it has the potential to be the best movie this year by far. The preview is just amazing.

Check it out.

!!!!

The hell? In that preview, there's no indication whatsoever of a plot, of acting...nothing. How can you say it has the potential to be the best movie of the year 'by far'?

Looks interesting, but can't really tell much by that trailer. Written & directed by Zach Braff....just can't get past his character on Scrubs to take him that seriously...

Um, it's a movie about jersey? I'd rather watch the grass grow (although this does have Natalie in it)

True dat.

just wanted to bump this since just saw a screening of it at UCLA yesterday.

Great movie, even better sound track. The movie is very visual and although the preview doesn't give you anything, you can tell its a special, different type of movie.

Really enjoyed it and its target audience are college and younger generation in their 20's....

Also, the story of how it was made is pretty amazing as well.. no studio wanted to make it, but Zach Braff got a big break when one guy just wrote a check for 2.5 million to fund the movie. It's getting great reviews. Go see it on June 30th if it is showing near you.

Well, Zazh Braff said that Portman was looking for a small movie to do after all those Star Wars blockbusters and I guess she took a big paycut. But hey, its all for art (and I am sure she isn't going to go hungry anytime soon)

The movie got bad reviews in imdb. All visual effects with no plot.

Kind of like Matrix Reloaded without the popularity or following a great first movie.

Has anyone seen this yet? Is it any good? I wanted to see it tonight, but it's still not in a lot of theaters... you'd think I'd be able to see it in central Jersey, being as that it's called Garden State and all...

That is exactly what I thought... what is this movie about?

From the trailer, imho, it is a guy who feels like he doesnt fit in, but doesnt stand out!

🙂

Read the book...same author as The Ice Storm...if you didn't like that, you probably won't like Garden State.

You must be thinking of a different book. Zach Braff wrote it when he was a 5-7 years ago before he was in hollywood. It's also his directorial debut.

So um, anyway, someone who actually saw the movie.

I thought it was excellent, the directing was simply amazing, almost every shot was perfect, especially the one where Natalie Portman is dancing in front of the fire. I was never very impressed by her, but she was great in this Garden State, so was the gravedigger friend Mark. It's easily relatable to anyone who's been torn away from their suburban stupor and reintroduced to it to find that it was probably what they were missing in the first place. The soundtrack is amazing as well. Anyway, its a good film about the overmedicated, emotionless world that a lot of us live in.

That being said, I love New Jersey. Its my home and always will be. Most people who bash it have either only been to Newark airport or on I95 (the turnpike) for as little time as possible.
