I know about all that. The point I am making, which no one is realizing, is that a lot of the people in here are trying to prop up their "cause" of "integrity in gaming media!" (um...lol?) as something that anyone should actually care about, by linking it to the real problem of integrity in the real media.

That's less of a point and more of your personal opinion. There isn't really that much of a line between the media sites that write about games (increasingly, only sometimes) and the media sites that write about other things people are interested, and the ones that purport to be news. At the very least, sites like Kotaku and Polygon take themselves very seriously and are taken very seriously. You might think it's a joke, I might not really care very much about what they say either, but you shouldn't tell everyone that they're morons if they do.

At any rate, the whole GamerGate shitstorm should be linked to the "real" media because they are basically the ones who created it and continue to perpetuate it, constantly using it as the grand example for moral decay and everything that is wrong in society. It's become this bizarre social and even political trump card. No, they're not the ones that got people pissed off, but they're the ones who have increased the attention on it exponentially. And are probably its biggest recruitment force, because their claims are so over the top that even loyal readers have started questioning it.

From what I've seen of the GG people it's pretty much devolved on all fronts to a lot of immature, conspiratorial, reactionary garbage. But it's still not really an anti-woman movement nor is it about basement dwelling neckbeard virgin losers having a fit. How can you really criticize people in one breath then show such blatant prejudice against them in another?

And where did you get this impression in the first place? Most likely from the so-called media. Whom you admit is biased and manipulative as fuck.
