What am I supposed to notice. I can't be triggered nor can I be shut up. Whatever the threat is, I fail to see it. The one problem I can see is that because I am white and male I may be more easily able to totally ignore race and gender issues. My race and my gender are totally meaningless to my ego because they were never an issue, I was never under any real attack and I never needed to have any defense mechanisms in those areas.

So what it looks like to me is that people with racial and gender issues are struggling to find my place in the sun. All they have to do is drop their loads of cabbage, seems to me. There's all kinds of sun to share.

I don't know where you've been for the past 10 years. Mainstream non-gaming media had its GamerGate a long time ago.

What I asked is for you to use your enhanced radar in the form of your specialization to help me understand your issue. I am of the opinion that you have a lot more problems with me than I do with you. I've spent time in padded cells and beaten myself black and blue dealing with rage. You're out of the loop if you expect pretty much any online media to be the kind of "actual media" you seem to be describing. It's not at all limited to gaming or gossip sites, in fact I'd say that sites like Guardian, Salon, even NYTimes are actually worse than Kotaku or Polygon when it comes to writing smearing clickbait heavily biased and irrational opinion pieces (Polygon in particular actually still has interesting articles, while Salon's entire "most read" bar is terrible), ones that are even often disguised as news. At least with TMZ everyone knows they're trash and that makes it hard for them to even pretend to be coming from a moral publication. Yet somehow Gawker, despite being a tabloid, actually does seem to think they're some kind of moral arbiters. Maybe because their loyal reader base has a rousing circlejerk in the comments section of every article.

It's really very simple, they were close friends long before Depression Quest was a thing. There's plenty of evidence of that. Lots of indie devs and online game journos seem to have cliques IRL, there's lots of evidence of this. None of them deny it either, they just don't see how it's a conflict of interest. As I said, I think it's a conflict of interest. At least some publications have become more interested in disclosing this.

But that doesn't mean that anyone is actually trading sex for a promise of positive coverage. More like they had sex because they like each other and he gave positive coverage because he liked her game, which he played because he likes her.
