With no other discernible skills, a woman born to a single mother waitress can be driving a Ferrari and living in a mansion based solely off of her looks. There is no such parallel path for men, regardless of how good looking they are.

If you're a young woman, and you are overweight, you are squandering your best "earning" years by not being at peak attractiveness during your most marketable years. This seems pretty straight forward to me. I'm not making any judgments about whether the world should or shouldn't be this way, I'm just saying that it is.

Its not surprising, you can drive temporary sales through controversy and by appealing to people who will not sustain their interest.

Everyone knows controversy sells... movies, music and even yet videogames enjoyed this effect. However, there'd be less controversy if people weren't outraged over a story line there Thor is a female.

I'm interested in seeing the sales of Thor once they solve the 'mystery' of who the female Thor is. I'm not saying people don't like the book, though I would point out it helps when Thor (the male one) is still in the book taking up a good chunk of the story

Well, that's a reasonable consequence of the situation where Odinson who suddenly became unworthy of Mjolnir not because of anything he did but because of forbidden knowledge revealed to him. It's also an indication that the main interest was telling a compelling story rather than outraging a segment of geekdom for a sales bump.
