I think you'd find that the people who go and see the highest grossing movies every year are also predominantly boys/men ages 12-45, but that doesn't mean that we can't have chick flicks too. Just because someone doesn't consume the exact same media as you doesn't mean they aren't a real fan. I mean, if anyone made the claim that people who didn't see every Michael Bay movie weren't "real movie fans," we'd laugh at them and call them stupid, yet if someone doesn't buy every Call of Duty, they aren't "real gamers?" It's absurd.
Let's consider your list of strikes against WoW. Non-competitive, everybody wins nature... like Minecraft? Non-penalizing death... like Call of Duty or Halo (seriously, basically every game has a non-penalizing death, outside of hardcore games that literally do not let you continue)? Cutesy graphics... like Smash Brothers or Mario Kart? And you're being needlessly reductive when you claim that women only play cutesy games or mobile apps anyway; there are millions of women who play GTA or CoD, along with millions of men who play WoW or Flappy Bird. You're trying to set up an "us versus them" dichotomy when there isn't one, and it's descended beyond laughably insane to just plain sad.
