What's funny is I'm sure the gamergate people LOVED Colbert before he said they were nuts. Now I'm sure he is the enemy too.
To be honest, this whole topic looks like a bunch of babies arguing in kindergarten. Seriously, people have actual problems all over the world. Don't these people (from both sides of this...thing) have other things to worry about in life?
tweet wars, he said that, she accused this, and so on.

No they dont, thats why we are witnessing a multiple month war about video games. To be honest, this whole topic looks like a bunch of babies arguing in kindergarten. Which is basically what Anita is pushing now
As I said before, the crazy gamergate people are their own worst enemy.
Normal people look at what you're doing and are horrified, because it's fucking crazy.
Asking for journalists to disclose their personal relationships with developers is crazy? it's not much to ask for, really.

That has little to nothing to do with what Gamergate is about.
For most people I think it's just the fascination with watching the train wreck at this point.
Zuckergerg isnt and never was a nerd. Facebook wasnt some great geek invention. It was just a pathetic copy of an existing scam which was then marketed as a means to make money off of selling people's personal information. It was always just a scam. Everyone ever involved with facebook in any way is a moron who deserves everything they get. People who use facebook are the same people who would just line up to march into a gas chamber. You dont give a company your personal information for them to make billions off of. You just. dont. do. it. No matter how enticing their product is, it isnt worth it. People cant understand that, just like they cant understand where all the jobs went. They cant understand why we're spending $15k per student and yet education is swirling the drain. They cant understand what makes the healthcare system fail. They cant understand anything that should be common sense. So the scamming and looting just gets bigger and bigger until one day this massive edifice comes crashing down on all our heads. Then everyone is stuck paying for their stupidity.

I dislike the people on both sides, but for different reasons. The fact that there are hundreds of people out there spending literally all day, every day to keep both sides of this thing going pisses me off a little bit. All the people from both sides could probably do with a good beating with a 3 foot piece of 5/8" heater hose.
I can't really blame you. It's hard to not follow gaming news and see some of this from time to time. I don't watch many of the videos, but the worst had to be this video where this person's biggest problem had to be the fact that those "Gamers Are Dead" articles said mean things about gamers. So, in return, that person wanted an apology from the author(s). I don't get why someone would get so worked up about something as silly as that. If someone wants to profess that gamers are all "basement-dwellers", then let them show off their stupidity for the world to see.
Oh you buy the "its about ethics in games journalism" line?
That wasn't even what the articles were about. They were about the fact that the stereotype of the gamer as an immature neck-bearded basement-dweller is over.
If I understand the complaints correctly, the issue that people have is that the negative remarks above are painted with such a large brush that it includes people who aren't a part of the vitriol. My use of the wording "basement-dwellers" is simply to use a typical gamer stereotype. If I wanted to make it worse, I would've added Mountain Dew-guzzling and Hot Pocket-engulfing.Its young men queuing with plush mushroom hats and backpacks and jutting promo poster rolls. Queuing passionately for hours, at events around the world, to see the things that marketers want them to see. To find out whether they should buy things or not. They dont know how to dress or behave. Television cameras pan across these listless queues, and often catch the expressions of people who dont quite know why they themselves are standing there.
Games culture is a petri dish of people who know so little about how human social interaction and professional life works that they can concoct online wars about social justice or game journalism ethics, straight-faced, and cause genuine human consequences. Because of video games.
...
Gamer isnt just a dated demographic label that most people increasingly prefer not to use. Gamers are over. Thats why theyre so mad.
These obtuse shitslingers, these wailing hyper-consumers, these childish internet-arguers -- they are not my audience. They dont have to be yours. There is no side to be on, there is no debate to be had.
The reality is that most gamers fit the gamer stereotype. But now you have a bunch of feminists saying that there are tons of girls playing games too (not true outside of the casual\phone gaming market) and that games need to cater to them. And oh by the way, those stereotypical long time gamers are misogynistic jerks because they don't want their games changed to appease an audience that doesn't actually exist.
I disagree. I play many games. On all of them There are mmany females. Hell the leader of my last guild in wow was a women. We had about 20% of the roster as female.
I would say the "avarage" gamer has changed too. It seem smost of the people i talk with on WoW are 35+ proffesionals who work all day.
