OK I apologize for missing that. That being said, if DrDoug has made such logical fallacies (I have not read a large number of the posts here by far), then my assumption is that he's aware of it. I think DrDoug is a perfectly astute person, I just feel like alot of people, he's biased on the topic, like most of the people here, and probably like myself (if I stayed around in this thread long enough to make a position)

Yeah... pretty sure most of us that follow gaming news had already heard of Anita Sarkeesian before Zoe Quinn.

And yet Anita Sarkeesian's videos were thrown into the issue for good measure.... now, maybe it was a troll without any interest proGGies or aGGroes other than making sure the back and forth continues (good game for them if that's the case) who made sure she ended up embroiled in "the movement"

Now as others have noted the attention has garnered her more attention than she otherwise might've gotten otherwise... GG GG (as in good game man... /facetious)

No, the issue is that you have two fervent sides where neither want to back down. Honestly, as someone that's on the outskirts wondering when this drama will end, I get the feeling that they're really just talking yelling past each other.

I wonder why... look the Zoe Quin post was a spew of hatred around the allegation of sex for good coverage of a game. If the writer of that post left out the private conversations and simply said "Hey, maybe you guys might want to know that the writer/publisher of game X is in a relationship with a journalist of publication Y which covered game X" without said private correspondence being made public or the name calling the conversation could have been more rational...

Zoe Quinn's ex didn't want that... sure he might have valid complaints about her and there are issues with game news publishing, as evidenced by updated or newly adopted "ethical standards and policies" by some sites. But it very quickly became fodder for the culture war.

Kind of sad, since I have seen good rebuttals to some "tropes" points made... but too many of them just can't resist making personal attacks after making the rebuttal...

I have to say that it seems like this 'fight' was really short and pretty much completely one sided. It seems like pretty much everyone not actually participating in the fight decided that the gamergate people were horrible and have basically forgotten about it again.

Sure you have people still tweeting about it, but the larger culture seems to have moved on.

If you read through some of the stuff that Orooroo is posting, you'll see that GG is still launching operations to dox SJW types, and they've gotten more advertisers to abandon various gaming journalism sites. So it's still going, just most people don't care. The GGers have done far more damage in this fight.

I guess it depends on how you define 'damage'. I would say if the goal was to influence public opinion they lost that pretty badly as it seems the general cultural response has been pretty negative to them.

If you mean gaming journalism sites are losing advertisers and revenues, that's certainly very possible. Hard to know if/how much that's impacted their bottom line though.

If the goal was improving the quality of gaming journalism I doubt they have done anything at all. They never really focused on the actual problem anyway, which is the closeness of entertainment journalism and the companies they cover. (this is true for TV, movies, etc, as well)

Ironically by getting so many hardware & services companies to pull out of advertising with gaming journalism sites, they've made them even more beholden to the game publishers.

Seems like an unqualified victory to me. Could have used more swatting though.
