Just some information...

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2014/12/gamergate-is-being-investigated-by-the-fbi.html

A journalist at MuckRock filed a request for the FBI's files related to #Gamergate, and received a response explaining that they couldn't be released because it could compromise an ongoing investigation:

"The records responsive to your request are law enforcement records; there is a pending or prospective law enforcement proceeding relevant to these responsive records, and release of the information in these responsive records could reasonably be expected to interfere with law enforcement proceedings. For a further explanation of this exemption, see the enclosed Explanation of Exemptions."

The investigation's details are unknown, but Motherboard predicts it has something to do with the death and rape threats many female journalists and video-game designers received during the hashtag movement's peak.

Perhaps the FBI will be successful at determining what threats were real and how many were false.

Other than that I have nothing else to add. mea maxima culpa for posting again in this thread.

Round up every basement dweller that sent out death threats. Would need a 100,000 bed prison to house them all. Accommodations may be better than their parent's basement though.

As opposed to never forget slogans revolving around a movement or event. I will probably have to say I never knew what this was about.

A FAQ would have been helpful.

Are there some assholes threatening people online? Yep.

Is it a large number? Nope.

You're an idiot who has bought into one side's propaganda hook, line and sinker.

Hey, that's what feminism is all about! :awe:

You have no idea what feminism is about.

Your boogeyman has real history; you just turn it into some 8-headed monster because it's easier to blame feminism for your divorce, and lash out online about it.

sucks.

I get it...but it still sucks.

Honestly: seek better advice/help from real professionals.

Again, nice try but pure bullshit. Just like the "rape culture" lies, "pay gap" lies, "domestic violence" lies and all your other shenanigans.

Your attempt to nullify everything I've said because I've felt the sting of feminism's modern effects and don't like it (along with the other 80% of my reasons that have NOT affected me personally) is just showing another one of feminists' favorite tactics for the last 100 years. Shaming.

"If you debate his points, you'll lose. Instead, make emotional points! Call him every name in the book and discredit him so that no one will believe him anyway. All you have to do is keep on him like an angry badger and he'll eventually go away and yours will be the only voice left to listen to. People will be afraid to challenge you, so they'll fall into line!"

Worked way back to the White Feather campaign.

So, stick to the facts instead of deflecting, avoiding, blaming, shaming, and outright lying.

You're basically a Bob Ross painting of your own complaints. There isn't a single comment that you have made that is based in sound logic.

You get that, right?

This is why you get such responses.
You don't respond to arguments, as you have only offered emotion. You are the panty-muncher that you have been bitching about all along.

It's entertaining for the rest of us

Ah - if you can't win, at least make 'im angry, eh? Big points for successful trolling?

Meh. Your personal attacks mean nothing, just like the "dangerous threats" to Sarkeesian and her ilk. Dots on a screen from trolls going for a rise.

You do a pretty good job of nullifying any point you are trying to make by being a complete idiot. It must hurt knowing she's a better person that you will ever be.

I'll have to admit after reading all about this I still have no clue.

Is it some gamers are pissed at women who are trying to feminise games? Like no scantily clothed elf warriors?

Ugly women are mad that they have to look at pretty women in their games. Ugly men that can't get a woman take up their cause so they look sensitive to female issues. Ugly girl finds ugly man and they end up moving on to more pressing matters like enjoying life. This thing will die off once all the uglies find each other.

PS-Bobberfett, I'm being facetious here and a little factitious at the same time.

A real man, as nature meant for him to be, should not be fighting to spend more time with his children after separating with his wife, he should be fighting for more time with women.

It seems that most men who have problems with "feminism" are men who are not as nature meant them to be, and are actually more like women, and have problems with feminism because it makes women less like them.

If you want women to be lesser, like they would be in nature, you have to be a natural man yourself. Women will key into that and naturally become more demur, seeking your protection, etc. But if you act like a bitch, you'll get treated like a bitch, even by women.

As far as the gamer aspect of this story. Shitty games get on Steam all the time, it's a platform for making games easier to launch.

The idea of steam is to remove the larger barrier to entry for launching games in the past, which was getting attached to a production company, and launching a game the old fashioned way. Now, games can be vetted in much earlier stages, and not by production company execs, but by everybody on steam, which should allow the production companies with more resources to take indie games and make them big, because they already have the trial through steam.

So how is a female game developer that got a game launched on steam a big deal at all? Your wallet and what you actually spend time playing is what is ultimately going to decide the direction of gaming, and steam makes that process much easier.

Some see that as the problem. Commercials now show men as being stupid, and the women as the ones that are competent and in charge.

We all know that real life is anything but. Yes a woman knows how to cook and clean, and do laundry, but men are anything but incompetent at those tasks, we are just more useful elsewhere, where women are woefully incompetent.

Yes, woman come out of the womb knowing how to cook and clean. Men come out knowing how to sweat in some copper tubing and pour cement.
