That's the interesting thing. Pence certainly seems like a "true believer," who would offer the ability to accomplish their goals, so why not just get Trump out of the way? Worried about losing that part of the base, maybe? Worried Pence would go down with him? Don't want it to look like they made a mistake with Trump?

I think there is a balancing act going on. The Reps need to be seen to support their President, but their President must support them. If this is not a reciprocal arrangement then reality takes priority over appearances, yes even with Republicans. To save face there needs to be overwhelming evidence against Trump, which appears to be reaching a critical mass.

Maybe Trump will just declare his presidency an unparalleled success, mission accomplished and just ride off into the sunset victorious. He's delusional enough.
Yup, though I think even Trump isn't quite that delusional to think anyone will buy it.

Wait wait, strike that. I can see it happening. :tearsofjoy:

If I were the type to laugh out loud, I'd be doing my best Wicked Witch of the West impression right about now. Jeeeeee-zus motocrossing Krispy Kremes, every time I think this asshole can't possibly be less competent, less mature, less foresighted, less self-controlled, he proves me wrong.

You know what? I want him in office for at least half a term. I want him to stay there like a bullet in an infected, pus-oozing wound that's going progressively more and more septic. Getting rid of him too soon will let the GOP live. I want to watch that entire party die a slow, humiliating, lingering death, such that never in the next 50 years will any Republican nor any Democrat as far right as Obama or Hillary ever again win the Presidency.

This reminds me of our carpetbagging state Attorney General who was called grossly incompetent in his prior performance reviews. He was recorded by a fellow state civil servant begging to have the state intervene in a private matter on behalf of his megadonor buddy. The audio tapes and transcripts went public and the Republicans curved the wagons despite the blatant, damning evidence.

I long for a Goldwater Republican to come forward and just say "There are only so many lies you can take, and now there has been one too many. Trump should get his ass out of the White House -- today!"

Goldwater Republicans are called "Democrats" these days, and usually "left-wing Democrats." Even most of the modern Democrat party is far right of, say, the GOP of Nixon's day. Obama was right of Reagan in many respects, for example.

Why not? Dreams are dangerous, stupid things in a world like this. I had some once...and watched every single one tortured and mangled and killed. Live without hope; take things as they come.

I'm no doubt much older than you and thought the same way once. Eventually I decided that my dreams are my own and cannot be taken away from me unless I surrender. I'm much too stubborn to lie down and die and I suspect you are too. Screw em, "they" don't matter, you do.

FWIW

That happened during the election too. Then they migrated back when they realized the base was staying put. Don't hold your breath.

Do you really think they are going to put up with 4 years of this nonsense? I guess we shall see. If the Dems make headway they'll change course real fast. If the Dems lose big and Donny is still in office then we are screwed.

It will be like the fall of Rome.

Reps won't do anything unless Trump gets busted dead to rights because Trump still commands the base that they've diligently crazified for decades. Trump is really the only fly in their ointment right now. They like Pence. He's on board with the whole agenda which they'll slam right into America's bunghole first chance they get.

Can't you just feel the love?
What I feel is that Republican emotional fatigue will cause Trumps pants to fall down. Are we there yet? Getting closer I suspect.

This gets better and better.
I vow to help him. I know what he's feeling. Down is up, but you have to go down to find that out.

We've been there and we know that no one can "go there" for another. We just drag them out of the deep end of the pool when we can.

How old are you, if you don't mind my asking? I'm pretty sure I've had at least one past life, and it contains memories of what looks like the NYC subway in the 70s or early 80s and some very large blocks of brutalist Russian buildings from somewhat before, so "I" may actually be at least 60 or 70 years old in total...

Just turned 60. Sounds ancient, well it is I guess, but I feel half that. My Cherokee ancestors said I was born with an old spirit. I suppose I may have been around some time as well.

Torn.

On one hand I want to see Trump go down in flames.

Otoh, it's too soon. Pence takes over well before the midterms and can do some serious damage. He's not clumsy like Trump, so actually has a chance to save the party. Fvck.

If this turns out to be true then I don't see how any Congress with even a shred of principles doesn't start impeachment proceedings.

You should do stand-up. Ryan won't do shit and yurtle the turtle will just whine about how they can't jack over the American people because the raging orange buffoon is distracting everyone from raping the country.

I mean... but those won't be his exact words. Regardless, they are just as inept.

I smelled smoke when Trump threatened Comey in one of his twitter rants:

"James Comey better hope that there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press," Trump tweeted.

edit to add: I also thought it was typical for a narcissist to focus on the press implications rather than the legal implications. This is the kind of thing he should have discussed with his council in private not in a twitter rant in public. But it's his public image he is most concerned about. Obsessively so.

OMFG I just went over to Fox News to see how they're covering this story. The headline is "Comey's Revenge?" Yeah sure, this memo that he wrote in February is his revenge for being fired in May. ROLFLMAO

If the memos are real, Trump is going to be coated in diarrhea. Trying to make the case that Comey hatched a grand conspiracy in February by creating false accounts in his memos, then sent these memos forward to other FBI agents, all to try and use them several months later for the conspiracy's climax does not pass the smell test.

That notion versus the memos being accurate and Trump having pushed for these investigations to end, especially given his own statements on firing Comey over Russia and his constant whining about the Russia investigation, leaves the latter idea that they are accurate being the far more likely.

Career public attorney and law enforcement individual's word versus Dump's. If these memos are really out there and Comey confirms it, it's gonna be a shitnado! The shit winds are blowing. :D
