Executive Privilege!

Because The Donald is privileged.

His claim to EP is likely gone as he's already publicly released the firing memo containing a description of their alleged conversations. Comey is free to discuss those now.

It's not really that so much as it is Comey voluntarily testifying. He's not part of the administration anymore and their conversations aren't classified.

Reps won't do anything unless Trump gets busted dead to rights because Trump still commands the base that they've diligently crazified for decades. Trump is really the only fly in their ointment right now. They like Pence. He's on board with the whole agenda which they'll slam right into America's bunghole first chance they get.

Can't you just feel the love?

Don't you think that the repubs who are from light red, purple and blue districts and states are feeling vulnerable right now? Trump has dipped below 40% approval average and that was before yesterday and today's revelations. He's going to be like a led weight around their necks come fall 2018.

Today's revelation and last week's revelation (that he fired Comey over the investigation) amount to obstruction of justice. I think we're one or two more of these revelations away from certain repubs calling for impeachment.

We'll see.

Except the admin will try to claim it as it was privileged at the time because Comey was still director then. They briefly tried that with Yates at first as well.

Comey can absolutely testify about unclassified info. Personal exchanges with executive branch members would be slightly different. Except Donny fucked that up ahead of time.

And yet if they turn against Trump at this point their base will roast them alive because that base believes in Donald Trump, not them. Otherwise Trump wouldn't have won the primary.

If they stick with Trump many of these repubs from purple/blue districts will lose their jobs.

True. The Jedi Trump is not real and the Reps will abandon him as fast as he would them. It's entirely a matter of self interest.

That doesn't matter though as EP only exists to resist subpoenas. It can't be used to curtail the free speech rights of US citizens.

They can be 100% right that it was a privileged conversation and none of that can stop him from talking all about it.

Ahahha Karl Rove on Faux just compared what Trump allegedly did to Obama saying publicly that "Hillary did nothing wrong" or "the IRS did nothing wrong" during an active investigation. Somehow that passes the GOP obstruction test, but Trump telling the head of the FBI what to do doesn't???

The GOP is proper fucked. If they impeach, they piss off the Trump voters. If they don't they maybe lose the independents. Since the GOP is retarded, they prefer to kick the can when they can which in this case means avoid pissing off the base now and risk pissing off the independents later. Since GOP voters are retarded, they could piss them off now and count on them still voting GOP later because fuck liberals. Since independents are retarded, they could piss them off later and still not lose too many seats because independents are just people embarrassed to admit they are Republicans and fuck liberals.

Funny, I can't recall you ever being this much of a misanthrope. I'm thinking recent events may have something to do with it.

Yup people need to remind themselves of this. Obstruction of Justice, releasing higher than classified info to the your enemies, dead hookers in the the oval office? None of that matters to his supporters because he's Republican. No longer does the person matter, just if they aren't your guy or not.

Unless he says something like Free Healthcare For All or Freedom of Choice, he will stay in office.

He's become a monster by his own words. It's sad really because this crisis will pass and he'll be stuck in the past.

Trump could toss Putin's salad in the oval office and GOP won't impeach until they get tax cuts for the rich through.

Wrong way round I think. The turmoil in the WH prevents Republicans from having necessary cohesion and drive to accomplish their goals. At this point it's more likely to happen if Trump goes. Otherwise it's likely that the Dems will make substantial progress in control of Congress. Indeed hanging on too long may result in Reps losing control entirely.

Trump is in deep trouble.

The thing is Trump's ego is so big that he will never admit to any wrong doing. If this is true and Comey has logged their conversation he is done. It's going to be up to the Republicans now, since they have the majority.

This is some serious sh*t. I'm sure the Republicans are very worried. Its their ass that's on the line if they ignore this.

That's the interesting thing. Pence certainly seems like a "true believer," who would offer the ability to accomplish their goals, so why not just get Trump out of the way? Worried about losing that part of the base, maybe? Worried Pence would go down with him? Don't want it to look like they made a mistake with Trump?

The Republicans are hanging on but the honeymoon is over. We should see the few that stray from the Trump camp and more will follow.

Maybe Trump will just declare his presidency an unparalleled success, mission accomplished and just ride off into the sunset victorious. He's delusional enough.

That happened during the election too. Then they migrated back when they realized the base was staying put. Don't hold your breath.
