Conan Stevens is 7 feet tall, though The Mountain is supposed to be even bigger than that, over 7 and a half feet. Either way, he's big! And yeah, I noticed that Theon finally got some airtime too.

Very mild spoiler:
In a world full of morally gray characters, Gregor is the exception to the rule. He's just one evil badass. :)

Gregor is supposed to be close to eight feet tall and almost 500 lbs "cut", he wields a two-handed sword like a short sword while carrying a two-handed shield all the while in full plate armor.

Somewhere in the pinnacles of time an engineer looked at Gregor and developed the Tank.

They don't really make humans in that size, unfortunately.

I've read the books through three times (only twice on the last one) and it's really cracking me up how so many people can get upset at this show. I'm thinking some would be happier if this was an hour of Martin just reading the books to us while smoking a pipe. :p

Anyone else enjoy how they ended the 4th episode? That scene went much better than I expected.

I can't help being "that guy" who read the book and thought it was better. All the people I know who didn't read the book loved the end of Episode 4. I thought it was great too. "That guy" in me tho thinks about how much deeper the book was WRT the red-teeth serving wench, Cat's past at the inn, Marillion's dialog, etc. I think the show did a good job of compressing the chapter though.

I am interested in seeing how fans will react to how Renly is portrayed in the series. Google "game of thrones renly" and look at the results to get a hint as to what I am getting at.

That's true. But I agree with the guy. They could have done better than they did casting Gregor. At least from what we've seen so far.

Seriously? With who? How many 7'+ tall actors do you think there are? Of course, they could have cast someone shorter and made up the difference with effects, but that's a lot more trouble (and expense) for the filmmakers.

I bet once he stands next to other actors, he will seem more than adequate. Hell, Peter Dinklage probably comes up to his knee.

And 8' 500lb humans don't exist.

Come on man. They called the guy "The Mountain". With the scope of this series they could add some effects in. The reason they didn't is it doesn't matter that he's "human sized" to most of the audience since im sure most Throne's audience didn't read the books.

He was 8' in the novel, the actor is 7.5' in real life.

No, the actor is just over 7 feet, not 7.5 feet. In the novel, Gregor is described as "well over seven feet tall, closer to eight", so he could have been anywhere from about 7'7" to 7'10".

The only thing I hate about this series is the casting of Lena Headey as the Queen.

I LOVE Lena Headey (in a lusting sort of way).
I HATE the Queen (in a loathing sort of way).

Hrrrmmph.

Mis-read the actors stat's as 7'4"...it's 7'1/4"....still tall.

IMHO he's still about the closest non-cgi actor that will approach the novel's character.

You put a 7' tall 315lb dude next to an average 5'9"-11" guy at about 150-170lbs and he is going dwarf them.

There is such a thing as opportunity cost. Wasting time and money that would be better spent elsewhere to add 8" to their already 7' actor (who isn't even really a main character) would be dumb.

Also, insert "enlargement" joke here. :)

Are you really bickering over the casting of "The Queen"? Jeebus.

There's a unique difference. If you can't see it, you're an idiot.

Yeah, I'm not arguing against this casting choice, I think it was fine. The only person who seems unhappy about it is Lumathix. Of course, he also thought that Cersei needed to look like an "elf seductress" fantasy painting, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
