That sounds like the one I got, a base with sticky tape and two magnets. I paid $15-20 at Walmart, though.

November 1 Android security patch for S7E on T-Mobile released last weekend. I'm glad to see these are actually coming out on a regular basis.

Still digging this phone so far, no complaints. Snappy as heck, camera is awesome and battery life is impressive. camera was light years better than my S5, LG G2, xperia z3 and S4.

was really scared about not having a replacable battery but until it degrades it's fine.

biggest complaint is the slightly curved edge on the screen, which is causing my glass screen protector to delaminate and collect dust underneath.

Sigh.

Gave in after searhing IN VAIN for the great Chinese flagship killer hope.

End of the day... the S7 edge is the only thing came close for my tastes, and so now I'm rocking a silver one.

I like it so far better than I thought, just it sucks to flash forward from the Note 7 (aka the best smartphone ever thus far, despite its problems) now to... eh. Great, but nowhere near as great or better.

I'm over it til there's a Note 8 or whatever true flagship sails next... until then this will have to do.

Not me. I shelved my S7 Edge and took out the Note 7 from the asbestos shipping box and still rock the Note 7. Until it;s illegal I will love my Note 7. I had to lie to the GF as she asked if I shipped it back and I said yes. I told her it's a Note 6. :)

Wow. not even some 60% battery limit not stopping you? (Personally I'm surprised it wasn't 20% or something really crazy).

I sent my N7 back a while ago and was fairly okay with my Verizon Note 4/ AT&T sim. I considrered keeping it but ultimately I considered it might freak people out to brandish the 'banned exploding phone gasp!' in their homes/places of business/cars etc.

Sigh.

LOL @ note 6!

That was another reason for me... my wife wasn't having any of it. I suppose I could have put a skin on the back over the name and told her it was an S7. But then she'd catch me using the s-pen...

Oh, I did keep the S7 s-pen. still works great with my other Notes and has a finer tip. I hope most people thought to keep it... screw it. Samsung isn't docking anyone over a missing S-pen.

I kept the pen, charger, cables and earbuds from the first Note 7 I had. I went to a verizon store and told them I left them at work. They didnt care. Gave me my replacement on the spot. They wont lose any money or sleep over it. So I have extra crap for my note 7. I sure hope they make the Note 8 as close to the 7 as possible. Its a shame my Note 7 will never see an update but I will probably be on an 8 by the time it needs one. Then i'll give it back to samsung.

I'm using the S7 Edge for now, I have the itch to change phones but nothing on the market right now that satisfies my requirements:

- Waterproof
- Wireless charging (once you go wireless its hard to go back!)
- 5.5"+ screen
- Great camera with fast shutter speed

I'm very surprised the Google Pixel XL doesn't have wireless charging or is waterproof, else I'd get one of those.

I didnt choose the pixel for the above reasons and for the lack of SD card support.

This times a million. Until the base model (at the base price) comes with 128gb standard, won't touch anything without the SD card slot.

SD Cards aren't all perfect though, but i'd much rather have them than not. i've had two 64GB sandisk ones fail me in the last 3 years.

Same here except black. Looked at Chinese phones but in the end they all ended up lacking and were not actually that much cheaper in the online shops here (and importing yourself has some risks especially concerning warranty...). Some issue with chinese phones:

Xiaomi, Huawei: Their custom UIs are terrible, iPhone like.

In General:
- lacking some possibly important LTE bands. I don't get it, it's the same SOC with same modem in it???
- lack of waterproofing
- lack of sd-slot
...

Looked at the Xiaomi Mi5: Great it has capacitive touch buttons but no sd-slot and tests showed it had very bad durability. (You can break it in half by hand, wtf). And then the MIUI...

How is it?
Not massively different to MM TBH.

It's been very stable for me, the Facebook app complained if I changed to resolution in the power saving app but apart from that no problems (I know there's some people on XDA that are finding it less stable but most of them have flashed in Odin and are not originally on the correct CSC).

I'm not entirely convinced about the change to the notification shade (it's a bit more stock Android and a bit less TouchWiz).

The new power options are nice (I think that they are similar to the ones one the Note 7 (less the self immolation setting! )).

Battery life seems fairly similar to MM but that may get better as Doze learns which apps to sleep.

Gear VR is not working with the Beta right now but Samsung have said that they are aware of that and it's something that they will address later.

I can't really think of anything hugely noticeable about the upgrade TBH. It's nice to have but most of the things Google have added to Android 7 Samsung have had for a while anyway.

I go through a good a good quantity of cards and I've been testing all my SD & micro SD cards with H2testw for the last few years and the failure rate has been above 50% for me (just unwrapped from packaging direct to read/write test). Brand doesn't seem to matter, my experience is the quality of SD cards overall is just horrible.

... H2testw...

Isn't that mainly to test if you have bought a forged card that's reporting as a larger capacity than it really is?

If you don't look for bargin sdcards on ebay direct from China that shouldn't be a problem.

I can't remember the last time I had an SDcard go bad.

Out of the dozens of high capacity SD cards I have only one 64gb Sandisk card went bad. But even then I had hacked it to work on a Nintendo 3DS. It basically stopped writing to it and would not format at all. I sent it to sandisk who honored the warranty.

I only buy PNY, Sandisk, or samsung in retail packaging from a retail store. Only card I've had gone bad was one PNY card that was removed from a canon with power on, seems it killed the I/O chip of the card. Still saving it to try and possibly get those pictures recovered at some point.

People should know better than to buy SD cards on eBay. You can use it to test the card size, but it is also to read/write test all the cells of an SD card just like a HD surface test. A lot of the cards I test don't resist beyond the 3rd read/write test. The cards themselves still work fine, as long as nothing vital gets written to a bad cell.

Unlike SSDs, SD cards have no bad sector relocations and just continue using them. Phone companies deal with phone returns due to micro SD card failures all the time, which is probably why many do not want to give the option.

WelshBloke,
Do you use the Always On Display, and if so did they implement the Note 7s display to show 3rd party app notifications? That's the one biggest thing I miss from the Note 7s UI.
