Yes, let's turn off animations so all we get is the redraw instead of animation lag, because that's always been the solution to stutters.

Instead of wasting time with lags, an instant transition is preferable really. Still, some of the stutters that occasionally occur never occurred with my slower One X. It's definitely rushed software on Samsung's part.

High comedy. My wife has an iPhone 5, had a 4 before that. I can make it lag every single day by doing simple things like swiping over to the keyboard search or scrolling a long list. What's App froze and crashed this morning and she gave me the phone not knowing what to do.

That you can claim to have a 100% perfect experience on the iPhone for 2 years and the worst experience ever on an S4 in a few days just shows blatant bias dude.

How so? I don't understand your claim. I don't have any bias. Read my OP again. I am not an apple fan at all! I just love the iPhone for being rock solid.

I have no reason to lie about this. I really did have a perfect 2 year record with the iPhone and with GS4 I am having nothing but trouble. In fact, I discovered more things that I hate and a few things I love recently.

Touchwiz is indeed god awful and unspeakably ugly like a few people here said. Just look at the in-call interface as one of the examples and then look at the iPhones in-call interface.

When shooting macros on the GS4, the camera focuses on that one spot where the green square was and everything else remains washed out or out of focus. Not the case with the iPhone. I will post some pics later as proof.

Again, several times, when unlocking the phone to pick up a call I was frustrated to see my screen obscured by an open app or a call reject interface, which I never even opened! You have no idea how frustrating it is when you just want to answer a call and instead have to close 1-2 apps which somehow opened when phone was in sleep mode before you can actually answer the damn call. Also it keeps lagging when trying to text someone or when trying to dial someones number. I constantly have a problem when I am texting where I will type several letters, the phone will lag for a split sec, and then all those letters I tried will instantly appear!

I think its very unfair for anyone to mention Cyanogen mod, or any rooting/custom ROM procedures when talking about Android phones. The fact is, this stuff is not officially supported or intended by the manufacturer, and as such cannot be mentioned as one of the phones merits IMO. (As a side note, I don't need a GS4, and its quad core CPU to have an awesome experience with CM. Hell, I had a rock solid experience with CM and the old, original Galaxy S!!!) But this is not the point.

My point is, the stock Touchwiz, is inferior to the iOS user experience. Both functionally, and aesthetically. Again, this is IMO. I find it funny how some people say that manipulating everything with one button is primitive, instead of admitting that is was quite an engineering feat, to create a phone, where everything could be manipulated with just one button and a touch screen! That being said, yes, having the back button is definitely nicer, and the option button is very nice also.

I also like the GS4's S-Voice. It is superior to Siri IMO, and almost always understands what I am saying on 1st try, where Siri will actually require me to say the same damn thing over several times.

Androids alarm is nicer as well, with more pleasant chimes... (but I suppose I could have downloaded extra ones for the iOS)

Web browsing and movie watching is undeniably more pleasant, and battery life seems endless compered to the iPhone. GS4 literally lasts all day for me and then some. On one charge!

I am still trying to convince myself to keep the GS4 and wait for a decent CM mod release, but really, a good camera is just too important for me, so I am still thinking about exchanging for the iPhone. I think I'll give it another week or so...

If your main problem is the Touchwiz launcher then just download a different one. Theres loads on the market, I'd suggest apex or Nova.

Not sure what you mean by having to close apps to answer a call. When I get a call the screen for answering is on top of everything else no matter what else is open.

Samsung's shots inside my apartment under artificial light in the evening suck big time!

I noticed a similar situation comparing my S4 to my Wife's HTC One. When inside, her shots are consistently better with only a few exceptions. It seems like its harder to get a good shot with the S4 in low light, but when I do get a good shot it captures detail that her One can't.

BTW, for anyone deciding between the One and the S4, get the One unless you're really hung up on that extra 0.3 inches on the display. I say that without any regard to the build quality. Its just a nicer phone to use overall.

I would also take into the decision how important is having microSD card is for you as well as removable battery.

IMO, that's the main deciding factors this year. If you need mSD or a removable battery, pick the SGS4. If you don't, pick the One.

You really can't go wrong with either of these phones though.

Look at the s4 forum on xda. First 2 pages are all about the lag, it's scary.

Samsung tweaked the transitions wrong on the AT&T version at least. You go into developer options and cut their timing in half and the device flies.

Its one of those times when a bandaid made for an earlier era (when Android phones were slow and needed transitions to mask that) messes up things today. I expect it to be fixed in an OTA.

I have had one game crash and otherwise this thing is a monster in benchmarks and gaming.

Engadget has some hands on with the Exynos based SGS4. Doesn't look like we're missing much with the Snapdragon 600 version.

It's seems pretty likely Samsung made sure both models performed similarly. That's almost certainly the reason why the GS4 has the faster 1.9GHz (instead of 1.7GHz) S600 and 450MHz Adreno 320.

They didn't want it to be like last year where at the end it was like "Yeah looking at it the US one sucks in comparison. Throw an extra gig of RAM in there to make up for it!"

And ironically that extra gig will allow the US version to last longer than any smartphone of that generation....

Really? Because at the very moment neither the Q&A nor General forum for the GS4 have a single thread in the first page about lag. You might have picked a bad time.

However, Touchwiz definitely does introduce lag into the UI where there shouldn't be any. The brave folks on CM10.1 report the smoothness expected from the hardware.

they must've cleaned it up or merged a few threads. i swear, half of the first page was highlighed by the word "lag".

despite the latest patch, there were still complaints about lag.
i'm not talking about games or benchmarks (which I ignore for the most part because I don't buy a phone to benchmark).

the lag was present in the home screen when swiping, browser when scrolling/zooming.

That's not goddamn lag. That's a goddamn rubber band animation.

My launcher animation actually goes faster than my finger across the screen. What do you call that? Going forward in time?

So I just couldn't take it anymore. I went back to AT&T store, and I exchanged the Galaxy S4 for the iPhone 5. No one can say that I didn't give the S4 a fair chance. I had the damned thing for about two weeks, did some very extensive testing, and was mostly very, very disappointed with the performance.

As soon as I got the iPhone back into my hands, I was a little annoyed with the lack of the back button, and the small screen. But my annoyance quickly faded away when I could text quickly and easily again, with zero lag! The earpiece sounded crystal clear and loud during my phone call, and the photos looked beautiful again.

Yes, I may miss some bells and whistles, but until Samsung gets their act together, and starts making their phones not only powerful in benchmark tests, but also smooth and reliable in real life, with good camera quality and loud-enough calls, I want nothing to do with them again.

And if I want bells and whistles, and a "tinkering" experience with Android, I have a Nexus 7 for that. - its nice I don't have to take pictures, or make calls with it though. ; )

Did you consider trying the HTC One? I've been using mine for a week without any performance or lag whatsoever. Smooth as butter for Sense/Blinkfeed, Android GUI, and all apps I've installed and run. Love it. I see no big advantage the iPhone would have over it at all. You said in the original post that you chose the S4 because of its replaceable battery, but if you're comfortable going to the iPhone, I would think the One would be a better choice. And the daytime shooting doesn't suck at all for the One - even if the Lumia 920 or S4 are marginally better than it, it still takes pretty good shots in bright daylight. And definitely better indoor or low light shots than anything except for the Lumia 920.

Not to mention the beautiful 1080p 468 DPI LCD screen, aluminum body, front facing high volume (for a phone) speakers and excellent audio quality, 32GB storage for the base model, infrared and remote control app (works great with my receiver, TV, and FiOS box, btw), superb microphones for 1080p video recording, etc.

Plus the Media Link HD that came with my phone (was only free for preorder) works pretty well, too, though I did have to run an update to fix an ATT notification bug that popped up at first. The One is now my portable/wireless HTPC unit in addition to being a remote. I streamed episode 1 of David Attenborough's "Africa" in HD from it. Pretty awesome.

I didn't read the entire thread, but didn't he post pics from his S4 in the first post?
Yeah, no one coud possibly take a photo and claim its from a device they don't own.

The fact that he posted photos but couldn't be bothered to snap a photo of his phone he supposedly had (despite being asked multiple times) wreaks even more. It's 100% his own fault that he lacks credibility.

By the way, I don't just say this in a vacuum- people for whatever reasons spread this very same sort of FUD before the SGS3 and the Note 2 came out. ("OH, I have one -convieniently before most others- and it's slow and it sucks blah blah blah!!" but then bailing without actually proving any of the FUD.)

He kinda failed to produce a single original with the EXIF data at least.

Oh okay, got you guys. I didn't see the posts where people were asking to see pics of the phone itself. My fault, as I've only read parts of the thread.
