evga 8800gtx ordered from zipzoomfly $651.99 with 2 day shipping.

now to the FS/FT forum to sell my X1900XT.

Just ordered one as well 😉 It was a tough choice between the BFG and the eVGA though... but I think the fact that my current BFG card has issues (and HAS had issues, I just don't have a card to use in place of it while I send it out for warranty replacement) and the fact that eVGA's card comes with a free game I won't even play... that sealed the deal! Let's hope ZZF gets it out quicker than they did when I ordered a 750GB HDD (took them like 3 days to ship it -_-)

I typically only buy cards that are mid range in price ($250 and under), but can be modified or OC'd to high end performance. I'm cheap...and/or broke.

Gainward GF3 Ti200->GF3Ti500 OC
Gainward GF4 Ti4200->GF4Ti4600+ OC
Connect3D 9500->Radeon 9700pro softmod
eVGA 6800NU->128MB 6800Ultra softmod
ATI X1900AIW->625/1200 OC

This gen there will be something similar, whether it's a limited edition card or a new part. It's always been this way. $450 is too steep for me for a second tier GTS.

There's no need for it for now. My 7900GT KO runs all my games just fine at 1680x1050. Will wait until next year, possibly as late as springtime to do a complete system upgrade to C2D, DX10, DDR2, and Vista.

Okay. Zipzoomfly is complete crud. I ordered an XFX 8800GTX from them as soon as the card went up on the website @$599 + free ship. I say to mysef, "Sweet, now I don't have to worry about it any longer". Well I get this email that basically says sorry but the item you ordered has been discontinued and your order was cancelled. I look at the their site and the card still shows in stock but is now $649. After 20 minutes of calling I finally got through to them and told them what I thought of their unethical behaviour. The guy says that the cards have been discontinued and due to a glitch in the computer system it was still showing up as in stock. No managers anywhere to discuss this with (at least to give me the same price on a different GTX) of course. I used to like Zipzoomfly but that was pretty underhanded just to make an extra $50.

That seems like a pretty silly bait and switch tactic... how many people are going to fall for that?

Anyway, I'm going to wait for the Asus boards and try to pick up a GTS for < $450.

I think they realized how much demand there was for the card and didn't want to let it go for $599. Seems lame for $50 but that's all I can think as it's still up on the site as in stock while other cards are showing OOS.

Hehe, and probably at decent prices too. My 7900GTX is fast enough for everything I play all details on Ultra/High.

I voted wait for R600, not because I much prefer ATI, just because I'm more likely to have a spare 500-600 at that time.

Shouldn't there be a "file step-up request" choice in the poll?

Availability seems to be pretty good though. Both stores I contacted today had GTX and GTS cards in stock. When I went to pick up my card at Micro Center, they had a bunch of cards as well as EVGA 680i motherboards.

edit: and newegg seems to still have stock of most of their GTXes and GTSes as well...

I'm pretty happy with my X1900XT 512mb, as it takes all that I throw at it so far at 1600*1200 with at least 4xAA and 16xHQAF, sometimes I can even take it up to 6xAA! So I'm going to stick with my X1900XT 512mb for now at least, I might jump at the R600, but for now, X1900XT is plenty for me. I'll probably wait until 2nd generation DX10 cards before upgrading, though. Or if an 8900GT comes out in the future that has the same performance as a 8800GTX for $300(a little like the 7900GT did with the 7800GTX), then I might grab it.

But for now, my X1900XT stays.

Should be getting mine in around Monday 😀.

You'll notice a difference, but not the difference you were hoping for.

A 9800 pro will kill an 8800gtx since it is 1000 points ahead in terms of nomenclature.

Sorry man, but you just downgraded...

I hope you plan on getting a new mobo with that.

Yea, got one of those EVGA 680i dealies, along with an E6400... It's gonna be a sweet weekend 🙂.

i have an ati 9600 pro ...so you can understand why i have no trouble with upgrading to a 8800 gts now --except that canadacomputers wants 600$ cdn for one. Last i checked, the cdn dollar was nearly the same as the american one. 🙁

this has turned the tide for me really

i knew G80 was gonna be good, but i didnt expect insane lol!

i was just on my way out of PC gaming and about to purchase an imac to go with my xbox360. (at this point i cant decide between 20 or 24 inch imac, the 20 has the x1600 which isnt very good and the 24 has a 7600gt which is much better, but isnt suited particularly well to that massive screen)

i would still like to play pc games, company of heros is a favourite, UT07 will be a game to have, as will supreme commander.

and no g80 is really inticing me back, jus so i can be apart of the insanity.

well i think ill keep saving, then when i got the dough, ill see whats what, mac offer some nice student discount on the imacs and i like saving money, but the temptation to get a C2D shuttle system and put a 8800GTS in it (think the shuttle PSU will just be able to handle it, possibly even a GTX since shuttles latest C2D box is crossfire certified)

i shall have to wait and see !!!
