I think a lot of gay people don't realize that homosexuality makes people uncomfortable. It makes me uncomfortable. I don't want to see two dudes kissing, yet I don't care if a guy and a girl are kissing. So what. To me, its natural. Just like to gay people, being gay is natural. But since the majority of people are straight, you can either be flamboyant and make everyone feel uncomfortable (and in turn be somewhat of an outcast) or try to keep it to yourself and close friends. It's a fact of life, no matter how unfair.
Take that one guy on Last Comic Standing, for example. All of his material was about being gay, and for some reason people thought it was funny. I seriously wish I could punch that dude in the face. He annoys the hell out of me. I never heard one joke that entire show that didn't have to do with him being gay.
This is not directed at anyone in these forums but just something I wanted to point out since we're on the subject.
Of course I can't speak for all gays, but I *KNOW* that homosexuality makes an insanely large number of heterosexual people extremely uncomfortable.
I am not flambouyant in real life, nor has *any at all* ever asked me if I am gay IRL, without having prior knowledge - my actions and lifestyle do not give it away. However, this is an online forum - here's where I can relax, without fear of repercussion (for the most part). I don't want to be banned for anything, so I don't go too over the top... but if I were to be banned... oh well, I guess I'll spend more time elsewhere, or create a new account. Here is where I'm able to throw crap in people's faces, to get their reactions, without the risk of being physically assaulted for it (at least in the short term)... so why should I care if I make people on ATOT uncomfortable with my sexuality? I really don't intend to do that - and honestly, I hadn't talked about homosexuality a huge amount until the last couple of weeks. The difference? I realized that it's just an online community... I do value my reputation around here and on other forums, but why not act however I feel?
IRL, I do keep to myself and my friends. It would be stupid to do otherwise - there are too many insane people out there that would go apeshit if I were to be flambouyant in the wrong situation... not that I'd ever want to anyway, for that matter.
I know that this thread is about rbloedow, not myself, but your post was about gay people as a generalization - and that's what I'm responding to.
I may give bridgen a hard time about being metro sexual and may not understand how a guy can be homosexual, but I realize people are all different and all have there own desires. Don't stop posting here because a few people are narrow minded and can't see the larger picture. I appreciate having a larger audience of different individuals contributing to this forum beyond the typical virign geek we all expect. Don't be dismayed by their bigotry.
You are jumping the gun, once again. This has nothing to do with liking or disliking gays. You and many other people are failing to see that. What this has to do with is reminding everyone on internet forums about your sexuality.
My comments were not specifically meant for you...I understand where you are coming from...but you really need to put yourself in RB's shoes and realize what it is like to be the society outcast.
I really don't think he makes any more homo inuendo/jokes then we make babe/hetero jokes. Just give him a break. He's excited about being open about who he really is...and he wants to share it with us...he's not trying to offend anyone.
I understand he's not trying to offend anyone and neither am I, though GeekDrew is making it hard. What bothers me is as both GeekDrew and Rbloedow have proven, it's mostly about them. They don't care what other people think. If that's the case, why should I?
You *weren't* trying to offend anyone? Good job with that, thus far!!!
Case in point.
I gave up on caring whether I offended you or not when you offended the entire gay community.
