just to clarify further, even if i had spent a lot less money on an opty or x2, and i am nowhere near new to OC'ing, i love OC'ing makes me feel all warm inside :), i STILL would have had to get the 7800 gt cuz the funding/financial backing aka parents could barely comprehend the need for a 300 dollar vid card, much less a 500 dollar one. so basically my gaming "budget", if you will, was 300 dollars, so i did the best with what i had. and sicns getting a cheaper proc and OC'ing was out of the question because of possible issues when i was away, i got the qucikest stock CPU avail

So your argument is that the FX-60 is faster in Windows than any other dual core processor?

Well, of course silly, we all know that opening up My Computer is way faster on a FX-60 versus a Opty 175!

Congrats on the new rig!

One of my friends bought 2 Aspire cases with 400W psu's in them and they were both DOA. Hope you don't have any problems with it. I think I'll wait for AMD to make the 65nm switch before I get a new cpu. Hopefully a Quad core. An FX60 is temping though for the extra oc'ing headroom.

I see you got an EVGA 7800GT. Excellent choice. If you come up with some more cash before the step-up ends you could trade it in for a G71. :D A 7800GT is still a powerful card though, especially for $300.

Why get a Lamborghini when you can get a supra for less and mod the hell out of it and make it just as fast/faster?
Well, damnit, because its a Lambo

Except for the fact that a lamborghini is engineered and constructed completely differently from a Supra. That's not the case with FX60 and opty165, they're basically the same thing, just different name.

The only posts I have seen of the FX-60 going beyond 2.8 is when using watercooling. It seems the aircooling folks been having trouble getting it past 2.8. stable for some reason.

Nice system. If it were me, I would inverse it and have spent the thousand on the videocards and the 300 on the CPU.

how did he pwn himself? he knew he could get an opty 170 or so and oc the hell out of it to make it run as fast or faster than the fx-60, but he got the fx for its name. well, it's all for show, but i dont think girls really dig the fact that one has an fx-60. "OMGWTFBBQ! He has an FX-60!!! It's even overclocked!!!! Screw FelixDeKat's crappy setup, I'm hookin up with this guy!" says a random girl.

No, I guess it's ok because he was using Daddy's Amex, if it was his money you can bet he wouldn't have gotten that chip. $1100 is a hell of a lot of lawns to mow son.

it was NOT his Amex...it was his Visa thank you. maybe u should collect some more info next time b4 ya go indirectly insulting me. anyways some of it was my cash from doing computer work and so forth. the real problem was he wanted "creative input" on the comp when he knows he cant even turn one on. so when i explained that for a lot less we could a proc that i could OC the hell out of and make it even faster than this one, he said no im buying that one because u said it was fastest. tried to explain that was stock speeds, and what OCing was, to no avail. cant say it matters tho, i have an FX-60!!

That is a damn fine system. You have a great set of parents to get you that.

Myself, I run a Opteron at 2860 with a 6800gs. Did I want a better video card? Damn right I did.

However, I wanted an Opeteron over a regular Athlon 64. Compromise now, upgrade later. For now its just fine. I have a p4c 2.4 @ 3ghz sitting next to my Opteron, the AMD just smokes the p4 in games. NO COMPARISION, I am very impressed.

That thing will fly don't worry about having a better card right no. My only worry is the power supply. You can see how that goes, but that is one thing you might want to take another look at. I am using a Fortron here.

Wow what a waste of your parents money! I assume all that rig is for gaming, but 2x 7800GT or a GTX would've been far better, and go with an FX-58 or whatever the fvck it is.l

Oh, and you've used Aspire supplies for 10 years? How old would that make you? Plus if you've used Aspire supplies for 10 years, or anywhere near that, then I've must've used my 9800Pro for 8 years, at least.

And next day shipping on all that?? What is the purpose of this machine? Damn!!!

I still dont understand why people spend that kind of money for "FX" line chips. Such a waste. They are incredibly hard to resell as well. Its called buy an opteron for $200 and oc to 2.9ghz on air...woot. Some peoples logic in purchasing cpus are mind boggling to me. Its like the biggest waste of cash you can make in any computer related purchase.

So you people pay you for computer work?

I'm really really not trying to bash you, but you made some poor, ill-conceived decisions. It's like you were conducting research and didn't make it past the first paragraph. Since this is a computer that you and your dad will be sharing, you should have saved him $800 and gotten something more in line with what it will be used for. Congrats on the system, I hope you make the best of it.

i think you guys are being a little to criticle here, it is his\dads money so they should have the right to spend it the way they want. sure you can give them advice and say some of the purchases were not to YOUR liking but to start flaming him is not right. i just bought a X2 4400 and was THIS CLOSE ( pinching 2 fingers together ) to buying an FX CPU myself for the unlocked multiplier. granted it was not going to be the FX-60 that is being discussed here but the FX line is appealing to some and that is why AMD made them in the first place.

Agree 100%...

But to each his own, and PLEASE make sure you enjoy that FX-60!! Awesome silicon..

i think your parents are idiotic for spending $1,100 on a cpu when you can spend less than half that much and oc it. but oh well, it looks like a decent system, just not something that most people would do with their money, as videocard means a lot more than cpu in today's games.
