fvk....just got a call...

uncle is dying after complications with an APPENDIX REMOVAL:|
At first I thought it was my dad over exaggeratting againg but it was confirmed by multiple sources🙁

Pics of my uncle🙁

detail later

<--en route

Update: 🙁

As it turns out, it was MUCH worse than I imagined.

My uncle was experiencing heart wrenching pains Friday night, was all pail and seemed to be dieing or something. 911 was called. The medics got their and apparently didn't know what was wrong except that his abdominal area was in pain. he could not walk so my dad carried him to the ambulance?for some reason a stretcher was not used(?). it was raining too so my uncle had to be lifted into the ambulance after being carried through the cold rain.

He went into the ER and it turned out that his appendix had burst and he had sepsis. His appendix was removed but there was still a LOT of fluid (?) that needed to be evacuated by pumping. All yesterday a machine that went into his abdominal area via his nose/mouth sucked up all this nasty black stuff. I swear I saw a few quarts in the pump machine when I went this afternoon. I left with family to let him rest. Apparently the container was replaced and it was half full again when I got back🙁

I wasn't able to find a doctor and my family hasn't been well informed other than the basics.

Basically he has infected multiple organs and they are either numb/nonfunctional and /or failing?we are talking liver and such🙁 (appearantly) I really don't know much more except that they gave him one hell of a antibiotic cocktail and it had little to no effect. Apparently they are now using their strongest stuff (or almost strongest) and we will know what the verdict is in 24 hours?

It?s not looking good.

What?s worst is that he probably understands what he is going through perfectly, as he is a nurse at Bethesda Naval Hospital, but he can only whisper (just barely audible) due to the pain?..

Pray for him or whatever it is that you do in situations is all I ask?.

Good night

UPDATE:

update:

He has a persistant fever of 111 (!) and is still secreting a lot of fluid. Doctors told my dad that this is a sign of SERIOUS infection🙁

FINAL EDIT:

OMFG...he recovered😀 WOOOHOOOO!😀 I was with freinds and family and everyone was so happy to see him get well again. We had feared the worst

I just got home from the hospital and he is doing really well🙂
Appearantly the enfection subsided, and what the doctors were really worried about, that his kidneys would get infected, never materialized😀

He was eating Ice cream and tea and smiling and such🙂
He is appearantly going to be discharges tomorrow😀
He has to rest for an entire week.

<-----efvkinglated TO THE MAX😀

Wow...sorry to hear that. You rarely ever hear of anything bad happening from appendix removals anymore.

woah, my condolences, just had my appendix removed 2 weeks ago, I was in the hospital for a week because it burst. It's very painful, I was on dilaudid for 5 days afterwards. Morphine wasn't working.

what? that sucks!

appendix removals i thought were just straightforward to the point. thats what my dad always says (hes an anesthesiologist).

im really sorry about your uncle.

If you get surgery while its enflamed, its usually very minor, if you get surgery after it bursts, all bets are off. You have acid and partially digested food inside your abdominal cavity and the risk for infection is VERY high.

Mine burst when I was four.

As you can see I'm still here, but it was an awful experience, one I'll NEVER forget that's for sure.

I hope everything turns out alright Goose.

I didnt mean there was a 100% mortality rate... i meant it can be fatal.

I know. I didn't mean to sound all defiant.

The Doc said I almost died during the operation.

I was just relating that mine burst and I was one of the lucky ones.

Good night

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts🙂

I am goign to bed or cry or...I dont know....I just need to go to workkk in the morning and need to figure out how to deal with this before then

my condolences.

my parents neighbor died yesterday. He had a hip replacement six months ago, and last week they did it again, as he'd had a low-grade infection since the first surgery. He was ready to go home yesterday, and just an hour or two before being discharged, he threw a clot and died. His wife had run home to get the house ready for his return and didn't get to say goodbye.

Stories like these make me fear surgery.

So just to confirm, the complication came since the appendix had already burst not because of some botched operation? Regardless, I hope your uncle can some how get through this

Wow, I hope he pulls through. I thought you could usually tell if your appendix was inflamed/ready to burst and have surgery to remove it.
