Call the FBI & other 3 letter associations. Say your HOA president is spreading anti-american propaganda and won't let you fly a flag. Say he "scans the area" lots and chants "down with the flag". Watch your HOA get pwnt 😀

Now that's an idea... except the FBI would prolly hate you 4ever for doing it lol. But seriously, if the guy doesn't back down... call the newspaper/TV station/etc. That'll light a fire under his.... yeah. Anyways, sitting in on the HOA meetings might help too, you can argue if they try to fine you 🙂

I will never live anywhere where there is a homeowners association.

You basically sign your rights away by living there

Anything they create even after you sign it has to usually be adhered to.

They had an X-Files episode about HOA'S?

yeah it was creepy. i forgot what it was about though

I think it was about an evil homeowner association president who had summoned a monster and couldn't control it anymore. The monster would take out anybody who didn't conform to the HOA rules (broken lights, trash, bad lawns, etc...). And Skully and Mulder moved in as a couple to investigate the area.

Make sure you stick this one in his.

Petition the rest of the homeowners to have him be removed for being a coomie-lover

Good for you!!! Stick to your guns; especially if you've got it in writing that you're in the right!!!!

I'm on your side 100%; I can't STAND any HOA; they rewrite their little laws as they see fit and everyone must kiss their ass or be ostracized.

Just be careful; you may win the battle but lose the war. They may be forced to let you keep your flags, but they'll be over every single day with a ruler, measuring your grass, etc.

Sorry you have to go thru this.

When the day comes that I FINALLY buy a house, I will buy ACRES of land and build my house dead in the center so nobody can tell me what the fuckkkkkk I can or cannot do w/my land.

my HOA is great

this last summer the ash recepticle for my grill was lying in the yard...the lawn guy ran over it
it trashed the tray AND his mower

they replaced my ash thingie and never mentioned the mower

they're also going to tear up my sidewalk and replace it because it cracked
i've also already gotten a new mailbox and a new porch light (and i broke both of them)

i'm glad to know my 75 bucks/month is going somewhere

My parents were ruined financially by the HOA where they moved to. They didn't know anyone who had any experience with one so they weren't prepared for the astounding level of pettiness that those people would stoop to.

No way would I ever live where there was an HOA. Basically a small team of bullies who can make the other homeowners pay all the legal fees to intimidate people into bending to the bullies' will. It cost my parents $20,000 to fight (it was either fight the HOA, or lose the $80,000 they already spent on their new home), and they eventually won. They can't recover their legal fees from the HOA, and my parents won because they got the HOA covenants (rules) voided in court. The judge told my parents that they could raise chickens in their front yard if they wanted to (sending a message to the HOA people who were absolutely wrong to bring the suit in the first place).

But the end result is that they are still out $20,000 because three people didn't want my parents to live there.

Interesting. Are you such a kiss ass that they love you so much that they have made you their poster-child? Just asking...

HOA's are run by stodgy old farts that have been there since the neighborhood was built. They dislike anyone new, no matter race/creed/sex/etc and will make you Public Enemy #1 unless you bow to their ways.

As has been said before, all the ahole needs is a 2/3 or some other predetermined majority to add the new rule to the book. The OP would not be grandfathered in and would have a certain ammount of time to be in compliance with the new rules. The OP is fvcked unless he gets his hands dirty.

Episode 6x13: Arcadia

You know what you can do. Find the biggest and ugliest antenna you can. Tell them flag or antenna, since the law doesn't say anyhting about flags, but the law does bar them from preventing you from placing an antenna up. While you don't need the antenna you can do it to get back at them.

I live in an HOA. Never had a problem with anything, and I'm not the type who follows every rule to a T. Our bylaws are a collectionf of common-sense rules that make everyone's life easier. Our house insurance is included in the fees. We get landscaping done (although we have our own big backyard where I get to do whatever I want to). The singpost was replaced, the cracking asphalt - repaved. Lighting at night is being taken care of, as well as sprinklers (including backyard).

When some neighbors decided to convert their garage into a storage place, and started using guest spots 24x7, HOA took care of it. And guess what? Our complex has been skyrocketing in value, and is considered one of the best to live in. And no, it's not run by a bunch of old tarts, but rather some middle-aged men and women, who volunteer for this job and do a good one at that.

Edit: when termites were discovered in one of the walls, HOA took care of that as well. Those dues do pay off.

An elected board of members from your community that develop rules and regulations and require a monthly or yearly fee. They can legally issue fines for rules broken and in most cases are a complete pain in the ass.

Can someone enlighten me as to what and HOA is exactly?

Homeowners association. A complex of buildings run by volunteers who live in that complex. In short, HOA takes care of the common areas and resolves disputes between neighbors.

So... $900 a year and you got a new mailbox and a porch light... And plans to fix a couple small cement slabs.

Sounds like a bargain to me!

Just tonight?

there was an article about flags (and flamingos, i think) and HOAs in People magazine not too long ago -- maybe a month or two ago at most. interesting read. basically, it reiterates the fact that the HOAs are pretty evil... and i guess it's just bringing more awareness about them to the public.

you should start a coalition. People Against Their HOAs = PATH

I lived in a HOA once. After paying about $900 in fines I moved.

Mine had rules like no cars parked in driveway after 10PM.. no cars parked in street...Could only paint your house one of four color. Could not display flags too... must mow grass past 4"...and I paid $100 a month for this sh1t?

Sad part is, you'll find, even the city and counties have stupid ass laws. Now, I live zoned Re1 which horses and stuff allowed, no HOA, behind a 8 ft block wall on 2.5 acres and they tell me to cut trees, mow my grass, stop burning trash etc..paid about $350 in fines here..

in the grand scheme of things why does this guy give a crap about a flag.

who honestly is so pretentious that they care so much about the aesthetic..such bullsh*t worthlessness.

kick him in the junk if he walks on your property.

I am SO glad we dont have this sort of thing where I live I would go mental. The neighbourhood watch scheme around here are bad enough, how do you people cope with paying to be treated like crap by some stuck up know it all?
