Yup. I put what I want on my house.

Hate the HOAs. I was going to buy a house once, found out it was governed by an HOA. I cancelled negotiations on the spot. The realtor couldn't believe I did so, apparently some people think they are worthwhile. I think they aren't worth half their weight in sh#t. 😀

OP, keep the flags flying, they don't have a leg to stand on.

Knock his ass out next time he comes over. Not only do I have 4 flying flags outside my house , I also have a No Tresspassing and a "We Don't Dial 911" sign in my front window.

Nope... Some regular housing neighborhoods have them, too.

There are upsides to them, also. They'll get on people who don't take care of their lawn, or people who's front yard resembles an auto salvage yard, etc...

most HOA disputes are due to idiots not understanding what that means then trying to put an El Camino on cinder blocks on the swale.

in your case it's open and shut...you will always have busy bodies in a neighborhood.

personally I would have more than likely came to fists with him.

edit due to a few more posts coming in after mine. I like HOA's here in S. Florida esp. those that bar housing chickens and pigs....without certain rules nothing stops your neighbor from putting up a hog pen or 100 hens nor a steam engine etc...

you want wanton abandon move to the woods.....

I think, in moderation they MAY be good if it prevents the neighborhood from going downhill and property values decreasing.

But this just sounds like nazi'ism

Call the FBI & other 3 letter associations. Say your HOA president is spreading anti-american propaganda and won't let you fly a flag. Say he "scans the area" lots and chants "down with the flag". Watch your HOA get pwnt 😀

HOAs serve a good purpose if they arent too anal, we had a guy acrosee the street who let his yard turn to sh|t, but the HOA fixed it by threating to fine him. We also got a threat because our net on our basket ball goal was ripped. It is really hard to see our net unless you are looking hard for it.

These self-righteous, arrogant pricks should be taken out back and shot.

They've tried to roll that crap out in my neigborhood in the past, there's no friggin' way I'd go along with. I'm proud to cut my grass once every 6 months

Yeah, but is it OK with the HOA to have dead bodies min the front yard?

Unfortunately, if the guy can get over 67% (typically) of the homeowners with your HOA to agree with him, he can amend the HOA bylaws.

If I were you, I'd pick up Robert's Rules of Order and make sure the HOA follows it to a T. You may want to sit in on the HOA meetings, as well.

your best defence, become a lawyer, and sue your neighbors for every noise they make, even if it's just a car backfiring.

This is the best advice yet... I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to get the rest of the homeowners to agree that a flag is not an eyesore.

Get peer pressure on this a-hole.

new guys who don't conform to the rest of the neighborhood are always PITAs... it's up to you whether you conform to being one of those new guys who don't conform.

You're not wrong, but you don't have to be right.

Totally worth it!

Pics of your flags out front? Just curious what the hubub is about. Maybe they are an eyesore... not saying you don't have a right to do it, clearly you should and do, I'm just interested why the idiot even mentioned it. Maybe he's upset about the commonwealth one?

First, make sure you attend the HOA meetings...
Second, draft a letter to the editor, specifically mentioning the name of the guy who told you "no flag", fill the letter with plenty of "My HOA contract specifically allows me to fly an American flag, but <name of guy> wants to deny my my first amendment rights to express my love of my own country, yadda yadda yadda anti-american yadda yadda. <name of guy> threatened me to take it down, or else...

Then, allow the guy to proof read it to see if you spelled his name correctly...
