FVCKING Hate the Homeowners Association

So I just moved into my townhouse and like all places I live, I put a US flag and the flag of the commonwealth on the sides of my front door. That was a week ago. Today, a guy from the Homeowers association stops by gives me a welcome to the neighborhood packet and tells me that my flags do not match the overall asthetic of the neighborhood and should be removed.

So I look it up in my HOA binder and it specifically allows for the flying of flags attached to the towhouses. The only thing it prohibits is freestanding flagpoles. Call HOA guy up and point this out.

His response: "well no one else has one and yours stick out and disrupt the asthetic of the neighborhood"

Me: "It says in the bylaws that I am allowed to have them"

Him: "I wish you wouldn't be so difficult about this"

Me: (getting pissed at this point) "Unless they change the bylaws, my flags stay"

Him: "we will be getting back to you on this I promise"

WTF????

lol, I'm glad I don't have to put up with that crap. The guy obviously has nothing better to do than to harrass people.

that is exactly the reason I will NEVER live in a place that has a HOA, they are run by self ritgheous, arrogant pricks that meddle in everyones business.

Don't have much of a choice around here. All the convenient nice places are either way way to expensive, or have HOA's.

After the last thread about HOAs, I decided I wouldn't ever want to live under their nazi regime. I think the last one was started by NSF4 when his girlfriend's dad was threatened with a fine because he forgot to bring his trash can in early enough.

Mine is terrible as well. We got fined $50 because a dandelion was growing in the fence post line and the grass people were to damn lazy to pull it out.

Well, you signed the CCR's so I guess you have to put up with it. They can fine you if you don't remove it so I guess you need to decide whether it is worth it to you to fight them just so you can put a flag on your door.

Not to mention that you get the benefit of paying to put up with this crap. 😛

The problem is the rules say I can have the flags. This dick is just being a dick.

Reminds me of an X-Flies episode....watch your back😉

They had an X-Files episode about HOA'S?

yeah it was creepy. i forgot what it was about though

Yeah, I remember this one. Something about the suspicious disappearance of people who didn't fit in with the rest of the neighborhood.

And if someone tries to block you from hanging a US flag on your own house, I recommend you politely tell them to go fvck themselves. If they persist, call the local newspaper and tell them the story. See how fast it becomes the new fashion.

We just got a letter from our HOA about christmas lights in the bushes 😀

Next year, were getting the Leg Lamp Light as seen in A Christmas Story 😀

Well, he signed the CC&R's but you obviously didn't actually read the thread 😉

I had an issue with my HOA once about the color of curtins and ended up getting fined for refusing to change them. The president of the HOA was my neighbor and I got home first so everyday on her way to her door I would be standing the butt ass naked in the front window and waved to her on the way to her house just about every day. Fines got lifted and they never gave me anymore crap about it.

Never heard of these before (HOA). Are they restricted to little gated communities and townhouses? I'm in Canada if that makes any difference (perhaps we don't have em) 😛
