Fvcking French: Concorde crash blamed on U.S. jet

Text

CERGY-PONTOISE, France (Reuters) -- A metal strip that fell off a Continental Airlines jet and a design fault in Concorde led to the supersonic jet's crash outside Paris in 2000, which killed 113 people, an official report on Tuesday.

They'll do anythign to take blame off themselves...

Regardless if it came off an American plane or not, they should have cleaned the runway...

huh ? I remember news about that thing flying it's last flight successsfully... maybe 2 years back... 😕 Did they just rebuild it after a crash ?

EDIT>> Ok it wasn't just the name of a single special plane like I thought.

There were one dozen or so Concordes in service, used both by Air France and British Airways.

This has been known for a long time. It shredded the tire, which then hit the engine and fuel lines, which caused a fire and the crash. Hell, Discovery Channel made a commercial talking about this months ago.

His 237-page report also highlighted a "serious fault" in the design of the supersonic jetliner, whose fuel tanks did not have sufficient protection from debris in the event of a burst tire.

Carry on with the France-bashing.

"Fvcking French"? I don't see anything unreasonable in that report.

Salvat cited a U.S. probe into the disaster which showed that the replacement titanium alloy strip fitted to the DC-10 had not been authorized by the U.S. Civil Aviation authorities.

He said Continental had failed to respect the rules governing metal fixtures used in building aircraft, and that the characteristics of the titanium alloy strip "played a major role in the process of cutting the Concorde's tire."

Continental's lax rules led to the metal fragment on the runway.
The metal fragment led to the punctured tire and fuel tank.
Punctured fuel tank led to the explosion.

Perhaps you missed this paragraph?

His 237-page report also highlighted a "serious fault" in the design of the supersonic jetliner, whose fuel tanks did not have sufficient protection from debris in the event of a burst tire.

Give me something else to bash them about and I will... 🙂

runways aren't swept after every takeoff.

Excuse me, but if debris is found, aircraft on approach are told to abort their landing and all takeoffs are halted until such debris is removed.

This happened to me in August as I was coming back from San Francisco.

oh heh, I didn't. I thought it was special in more ways than one.

Actually, they are, are for all intents and purposes. The jet blast moves a lot of debris, tire chunks, pebbles, etc) to the side.
In essence sweeping the runway clear. Items not properly affixed to the airplane notwithstanding.

Was it found?

Assuming it is seen. Now imagine you are on a 9,000 foot runway on which a smaller piece of debris is sitting somewhere in the middle. 1 foot out of almost 2 miles is hard to notice.

Also, I believe a 747 took off between the DC-10 and the Concorde, and it did not hit the metal.

Yeah, I'd really look forward to flying if they have to go out and inspect every runway after every plane takes off. That will really streamline the process.

How about, instead of your totally stupid idea, airlines stop half-assing their repairs, start using the appropriate parts, start following the rules of the US Civil Aviation authorities, and fixing their planes so the parts don't fall off during takeoff?

Oh that's right, because it's "cooler" to bash the French...

Or how about you die in a fire ?
