I walked into my garage the other day and found this.
Nice little puddle of oil sitting below the front right strut assembly.
Random burst strut. Click for video. .
Its no problem because I had a spare stock strut lying around that I put back in.
But this got me antsy to do something different.
bTime for a suspension upgrade.
-Ground Control Coilovers 250f, 350r - softer for street, but enough to track at my skill level.
-Ground Control Caster/Camber plates
-Koni Yellow Strut inserts.
This should allow me to lower the car a little, have WAY better handling, and be able to camber my wheels more easily as the stock set up really doesnt allow for a lot of camber/caster adjustment.
Also, while I was on my spree I ordered a LC-1 Innovative Wideband setup. This is in preparation for when/if I get Megasquirt PNP set up in my car. The Berk downpipe I installed last year has a bung for wideband already on it, so it should be easy bolt-on.
I put on a different muffler too. Its a Dynamax 3" inlet, "3 outlet. It sounds a lot better, not as loud, and doesnt drone. BUT, one of the baffles inside came loose and now all it does is rattle and sound like shit. Good thing for warranty. Should be here today.
Another side project I have going is a wire tuck. I bought a complete wiring harness for a Mk1, and a spare engine harness from a 93+ 3SGTE and am working on deleting all the unnecessary wires. My plan is to move most of the electronics to behind the drivers seat, and hide as many wires in the bay as possible. Its a little overwhelming at first, but Im only doing one wire at a time so as not to screw it all up. The trick is just making sure everything is labelled. I plan to make a cataloque with a list of all the colors of wires used in all the different areas so that if there is ever a problem (like a frayed wire) that it can be easily tracked down.
Its been a sunny +25*C around here for the past few days, so the paint from the sidevent mod is finally curing and hardening and should be ready for a wetsand soon.
