an air temperature sensor. The stock IAT is inside the Air Flow Meter which I intend to remove... not the greatest place for a temp sensor anyways as its pre-turbo.

Ah, yeah, the MS IAT should be as close to the intake valve as you can stand it.

I would carefully consider how the machining modifications might hold up. If it breaks and sucks something into the engine you're going to have a bad day.

The machining came out decent. I wish the bung would screw further down but its fine. *The sensor doesn't quite stick out into the air stream but it should work.

I used a plug from a spare wiring loom that I am going to wire directly into the new loom I'm making.

I was able to start my car and go for a drive with mega squirt. I ran ve- analyze for a few minutes and it made a bunch of changes. *Now I just need to do a bunch of reading and research to learn how to run this thing.
First reaction is...wooo! Already tell a power difference. *It seems to rev up a lot faster.

Hrm... not in the airstream isn't great. It might send a temperature, but it is far from ideal.

I'd be happy to weld a bung into an aluminum tubing bend if something like that could be spliced into your intake. I.e. trim out a section of the silicone hose and replace it with aluminum. I'm not sure what exactly would fit in your A2W setup though.

Good luck! Anything else to replace in there while it's out?

Thanks!
Not really anything else to replace.
Ill be able to finish the wire loom more easily, which is down to skeleton now. There is still two plugs I can get rid of on this as MSPNP doesnt use them (cold start injector and Injector Resistor Pack wiring). Where there is blue tape, those are wires I need to extend. Green tape is just labels.

I might be able to work on it a little tonight. Hopefully the problem is obvious.

A few days ago I pulled off my pad and found a MASSIVE oil slick where my car was parked.

ya. Im sad.

After some troubleshooting I am thinking its the main oil seal on the block.

So, this is the result of my days work

3.5 hours in 3.3 minute. Deleting an MR2's engine.

I think this is the first time Ive shown my face around here also.

Wow, that sucks, I'm guessing you changed it when you had it out, possible crankcase ventilation problem??..

Nope. Look next to the crank, just to the right. I'm missing that bolt which sticks out an inch. It's just gone. Nada, zip, zilch. Gonzo.
Easy fix. But now I'm waiting on parts.

I think its meant to protect the main crank pulley somehow.
But its missing, and without it oil will just pour out.
I can replace it with any bolt as long as it plugs that hole.

Seems like it might be important then... :sneaky:

Good luck!

Good luck!

Apparently, its sole purpose is to help with installation of the Timing Belt. To help prevent the belt from jumping a tooth during install.

hurrrrrr.... I wish I'd seen this before I took off the pump.

Now I need to wait for a gasket to arrive. Could be a while.

In the meantime Im going to work on replumbing my engine bay so the hoses arent just flopping around everywhere, the new engine wiring loom tucked and tidy, and some new intake plumbing with a better bung for intake air temperatures.

That's good stuff right there man! One day I'll be where you're at, for now the rod knock just keeps getting worse. Today it got deeper-sounding after a short drive. -.-

Keep it going!

many hours later...

ITS ALIVE!
...again

Engine is back in the bay with rerouted hoses and wiring, custom wiring harness that eliminated a tonne of unused plugs, new polished aluminum heat shield, and most importantly a fixed oil pump.

Wiring the ECU side took a LONG time. I made it thru without too much hassle, but I still have one gremlin that prevents me from starting the car with the key.
IMAG0220_zpsb1699251.jpg~original

So in the meantime while hunt down that problem I have just hot wired the starter - touch these two wires together and VROOM!
IMAG0226_zpsd25fc7ca.jpg~original

Took the car out for a drive and ran VE-analyze for a while. Not surprisingly it made a TONNE of changes.
IMAG0222_zps811cb28f.jpg~original

Still looks very busy under the hood, but its MUCH better and easier to work on having everything a little more organized.

I showed a couple of people my project mid build and they both agreed I was a nut case to be doing all that soldering and wiring and confusion. I thought it was FUN! Maybe im just weird.

Hey Guys!

Time for a little update! Ive been having WAY TOO MUCH FUN!

Megasquirt is up and running like a pro right now. Ive been working on getting it tuned in and feel good where its at right now, though I know it needs a little more work.

Ive been very bad lately. Some recent roadside kills (shh dont tell the police... right Jlee?)
-Scion FT86. Found him drifting around town and followed him for a bit. We went out of town to a remote road for a little "test". I smoked him out of the water from launch. The second time I let him get a bit of a jump on me... then blew right past him lol.
-Toyota Soarer with a 1JZ. He flew up beside me on the highway, then when the road went to two lanes he pulled beside me and hesitated to pass as in a direct challenge. He started to go and I dropped a gear and passed him. He as able to sort of keep up to me, but couldnt catch. He pulled me over and said "What the eff is in that thing??? I went to pass you and was like 'oh ya, I got this' then you took off and I was like... oh man, I felt bad man." hahah. that made me laugh.
1992 MR2 Turbo with a CT27turbo upgrade. He is a better driver and was continuously getting a launch on me, but I would pass him everytime once I hit 3rd. We thought this might be because my CT20b turbo kinda falls on its face past 6000rpm so I need to shift more quickly and more often.
Nissan 350Z Last night. He was toying with me thru town by speeding up and slowing down, so I just waited till we got out of town on a double lane. He was in third and I heard him floor it at about 80km/h when I pulled up beside him. So I dropped to third as well and caught him! I was suprise actually, I was able to pass him in 4th. When I got past him he flashed his lights at me and we pulled over. He got out of his car and said "OK, What is your name, what is in that car, and can I have a ride??!" So I showed him the engine bay and took him for a quick spin. I did a 1st thru 4th pull for him and he was yelling "HOOOLY thats FUN!"

Ok now for the details.
Put a new muffler on. I hated the way the cheap can sounded so I thru a flowmaster on. It sounds much smoother, but may still be a little noisy for the neighbors.

Heres a video of some launches at varying rev ranges, and a cheap tire brakestand.

And these are my current megasquirt details. These are the first Ive shown these to anyone so I have no idea if they are in need of major adjustments or not.
