Also today I sanded and polished up a couple pieces of the throttle body to match the valve cover.

And I also did some reorganizing with the air filter. I moved it to the lowest part of the engine bay in front of the transmission. Here it should receive the coolest air.

I am putting the Air Flow Meter pretty close to the turbo. I hope this wont cause any problems (I don’t see how). The coupler between the AFM and Turbo is off right now as I am working on it to put a new bung hole in it for PCV system. I also need to build a bracket to mount the AFM.

And the first of the new batch of parts came in. Some new 2.5” intake piping. A bit larger than the 2”.

Over the past few days I worked on getting the A2W setup installed and was able to do so fairly easily. I ran some 5/8" heater lines to the front to a small 12x12" radiator with a fan Just using a cheap Cobra pump wired to a switch in the cab that allows me to turn it off and on when I need it.
I also installed a new temperature sensor so my guage on my dash now works. Doesnt seem to be getting too hot in the times that I have been running it.

Then today I redid a compression test with the throttle open and have
Cylinder:1 - 2 - 3 - 4
Dry: 155 - 160 -165 - 155
Wet: 175 - 185 - 180 - 175
Still not very high but better than 120!
Heres the spark plug from C1. These only have about 100km (if that) on them. Is that darkening from detonation?

Then I steam cleaned and seafoamed the engine. I found a guide at MR2OC and followed it. I used a vacuum hose located near the throttlebody and ran about 1 gallon of distilled water thru it. Had to keep the throttle up to keep from bogging out. Went for a drive and cooked that all out and repeated. Then I ran half a can of Seafoam thru the line and let it bog the engine out. After letting the engine cool for about half an hour I started her up and *cough cough* Holy Smoke!! LOL. Good thing the neighbours werent home. Went for a drive and had some funny looks! I did two treatments of seafoam like that and smoked out my neighbourhood.

So the nice thing is, it somewhat helped somewhat. I went for a drive and boosted to 14PSI with some ease. There is still some bucking at around 5500rpm though. I have new cap/rotor/wires coming in sometime here - see if maybe I had the same problem Jlee had with his car? But now Im getting about -22hg while coasting instead of -19hg.

Also, Im still waiting on the Knock sensor from ATS Racing as there was some shipping delays there due to personal matters. But they are on their merry way and should arrive soon!

Do you have a way to monitor air intake temps? I'm seriously considering going to an A2W setup.

Fuzzy actully your compression ratio is very good and not in the low range at all! your motor is very strong! and nice A2W setup!

I almost bought a dual temp sensor from frozenboost.com. I may still as Im really curious to how much the water running thru is actually cooling. Just dont know how good of a guage it actually is. I Should also get a larger heat exchanger for it, this thing is WAY smaller than I expected. To be honest the intercooler is much smaller than I was expecting as well.

Really? Good to know. I thought I should be getting around 170dry and 200wet.

:awe: engine looks great!

Thanks man! Crazy how a few shiny parts can change the total appearance of the bay.

lower compression then an NA motor and the 5sfe usualy runs from 180-210 on a good engine. turbo cars are 150-170's for a solid and good 3sgte

Or buy my TD05 after my 3071 is in :whiste:

Though with a little light car like the Mk1, a CT20B is probably the way to go. That's a Gen3 downpipe - see if he'll split and sell just the turbo :awe:

id go the 60km one give you a lot of life left! ohh the bump in power will be epic!

Also the one i linked i know someone looking for a gen3 downpipe so i might be able to get him to split the pair im talking to nuno now see how serious he is. the set friend of mine would pay 175 for the DP which would mean the turbo would cost you $375

ya, its spiralling. Dont know if its outa control... yet.

I offered 350, he countered 375 and is getting a shipping quote. Not a bad price for a mildy used CT20B.

haha, I bought it. IM sure I wont regret it. I might be able to get half it back by selling my CT26.
From what I've read this turbo is mostly a straight drop in, but Im sure it can't be THAT simple.

Oh, and I also figured out why it seems like I have more lag with the 2.5" piping. I revved the engine from the throttlebody and saw the piping swell up like a balloon... dont know what I was thinking buying silicone instead of hard pipe. waste of fricken money. Live and learn I guess.

o_O that's some pretty sketchy silicone tubing then, good tubing wouldn't do that, especially at idle. You should point a camera at it and put it under full boost on the road and see what it's really doing.

I tried to make a video of it while driving but vibrations are too much underboost lol.

I will have to put in some hard lines.

Today i switched out the distributor Cap/Rotor and wires. Very little to no difference. Hesitation problem persists.

No doubt that these needed to be replaced anyways. They were quite corroded and worn down.
