looks and sounds awesome bro!

BTW your a big tease. You go trough the trouble of making a video and only rev it for 3.42 seconds out of the entire video!!!

hehe, I didnt even think about that.

thanks guys. Hopefully the mechanical speedo arrives soon. Im getting really annoyed just looking at this car and not driving it. Good thing I had a busy family weekend or else I'd been out with it.

what about insurance and registration? Both of which I cannot have until I have an inspection, which will not pass until I get a speedo.

ah forgot you had those pesky laws. I feel so lucky here in indiana. I plated a dirtbike in 20 minutes two years ago. Crazy easy

It wouldnt have been a problem if the MKI I bought was from alberta. But because it was imported from British Columbia I have to go thru all this B.S.

Its all just a money grab from the Registries office and Ticketed Mechanics

I am a little cheesed off today. I finally received a mechanical speedo sensor, but the tool that sent it to me gave me one from a Naturally Aspirated car with completely different transaxle duuuuuurrrrrrr...
sets me back another week as I wait for the CORRECT parts to arrive. I also need to cancel my appointement on wednesday that I had made for the inspection. Grrrrr.

Top, the electric speedo I have. Bottom, the mechanical I was sent. See the difference in base and gear size. Fail. I dont know how he got it wrong, I posted a picture AND parts numbers in my WTB thread at MR2OC ... gah!

I'm not sure if they'll ship to Canada (looks like they will), but have you contacted Aaron from Lithia Toyota (Springfield OR) for parts?

I was half-waiting to hear that you just bought a CNC machine and decided to make your own billet gear...

heh, I wasnt sure if they shipped cross border. Good to know.
There is a guy in California that goes by Divinity at MR2OC - he parts out a bunch of SW20's. Says he has one left.
I asked him to use the fastest shipping possible.

I still cannot figure out how that other dude would send me a gear from a S54. It just seems ridiculous - I would give him a bad trader rating but he seems legitimately sorry.

I now find this mechanical speedo fiasco a blessing in disguise. While I wait for the new and correct Mechanical Speedo to arrive I have been going over the car thoroughly to double check everything is in working order. And good thing I did.
First: my dash lights were not working - blown 7.5A fuse.
Second: Tail lights were not turning on with switch, but brake lights worked. Again a fuse.
Third: Headlights were intermittently not automatically retracting when key is shut off. Had a connector that was slightly corroded. Sanded it down, resoldered. Good as new.

Then I rearranged the engine bay a little to allow for a little more air around the intercooler.

The AFM and air filter do fit in the stock MKII location if I move my fuse box a bit lower. Dont think it will be a problem having it there.

Then I hooked up the side engine fan from the MKII underneath the intercooler. I can turn it off or on from a switch in the cab. It may not do much, but I am sure it is better than nothing. If I close the lid I can feel a little air moving out - my theory is as long as it gets the air moving in the bay then thats good.

Sometime I will have to get a legit Spal fan and cut a hole in the engine lid as the MK1 lid is very restrictive

Awesome thread! Makes me want to get back in the garage and fix my Gen3 MK2. The nice thing about learning how to be a mechanic with an MR2: every other car that I've worked on since seems so easy by comparison. =)

ahhh, a Gen 3. What a nice dream that is. So much cleaner and easier to maintain. Less of a space hog without the silly AFM, TVIS, EGR, and a factory PCV catch can, more temperature sensors, larger injectors, and moar POWER (albeit only 20 more horses).
Subtle but major improvements.

What is wrong with your MKII? Any pics?

Gen3's are nice, but given what you paid for your GenII engine I would be happy if I were you. =) Plus if you plan to mod them the power differences between the Gen2 and Gen3 tend to disappear.

No pics of my MR2, but it looks a lot like the good side of your donor MK2. I have two possibly related problems with it: 1) a boost leak that I can't track down no matter how many times I spray soap bubbles all over my engine, and 2) I am running so rich that I foul out a new set of sparks plugs every 100 miles or so. I have been trying to track down the cause of the running rich condition for a while; there are about 27 different potential causes.

Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to get back in the garage! =)

Can't you make a harness/bracket to put to the bottom of the intercooler in order to mount a high CFM fan directly to it?

ya probably. If i hook up a fan properly Im going to have one on top of the intercooler pulling air up through and out the lid. This is just temporary till I get a proper fan. -and a proper intercooler (maybe air to water? but thats a lot of weight to add)

oh manimal. Heres your rev happy video. quality sucks. but whatevs. Also it was while it was still cold, so a little white smoke.

^ Sounds really good man!

When I was in Miami this week I thought of you and Jlee.

There was the cleanest mark 1 I have ever seen. As I was lusting after its its rust free body and BBS wheels it accelerated to make a light and I heard the pshhhhhhh
I am assuming it was a 1.5

Was more jealous of that car than most of the dime a dozen supercars posing this weekend on Ocean ave. well except the Maserati Grand Sport with custom exhaust.

May have also been a 4AGTE

If it was a 3S there are two guys down by Miami that have registered their car on the list at MR2OC
58. demetri01ws6 (Demetri Mallous) Fort Myers, FL. 85 NA > 3sgte gen4 running
59. huevo787 (Edmar Ortiz) Hollywood, fl 88 sc 2gen 3sgte 350hp@20psi
