I was curious to how you were planning to do that. Even if they arent exactly correct I think that I can slightly adjust the engine side brackets to compensate. Looks tip top mate.

One mount completely done!

I screwed up one of the bushings, so I'll be remaking it tonight, and making another titanium bushing insert. For because reasons, like racecar.

Probably a degreasing and healthy dose of POR15 would work best for these?

Or should I sand/primer/paint them properly?

Are the inserts hard to get out?

The bushings would be pretty tedious to get out. I did anticipate corrosion being a possible concern inside the the mount, which is why I used oil-impregnated UHMWPE. A thin oil film should develop between the mount and the bushings as they are stressed (think of it like oil getting squeezed out a sponge).

The steel is all pretty clean from being welded, so you could easily just de-grease them, brush of some of the loose material away, and paint/POR15 them. You could use Boeshield or a penetrating oil around the flange on the bushing (after the mount is painted obviously) to keep the very edge of the lip from rusting. That's what I would do anyway, I don't really like having paint inside any brearing/bushings surfaces.

My buddy that machined some of the bushings suggested just clear-coating them because "heat affected zones look wicked awesome."

Received the mounts yesterday and threw a few coats of clearcoat onto them. Hard to see in the photos, but it sure made the colors pop. I think there may have been a little loss in color during shipping because there seems to be less blue than pictured by JCH13... could just be lighting as well.

They fit perfectly. Shame nobody will see them but us and the guy that does my alignments.

I got impatient after fitting these and took the car out for an ill advised ride. Still lots of sand on the streets, but man... I missed ma ca.

EDIT: also, these bushing... holy cow... they make my teeth rattle. Pretty solid stuff. Car vibrates like an off balance washing machine.

Hehe... They are solid plastic 'race' bushing essentially, you were warned! The mounts will still fit the same polyurethane bushings that your original mounts came with. Assuming you can could order more from the same place you got your original mounts from you could replace the bushings.

Glad they worked for you!

When I had my alignment done back in May, the mounts were noticed. "Compliments to the Chef" he said.

Working on some major and minor repairs after my transmission let loose a couple months ago. Apprarently the failure is not common, but not unheard of. It is one of the only weak points of a E153 Toyota transmission, otherwise these things are tough as bricks.

Ive managed to source a new transmission. Its at a shop having a couple bearings replaced, but should be ready this week. Downside is that it does not have a limited slip differential, but after some research some guys claim that I may not even notice its missing. Apparently because these cars are so light and well balanced the non-LSD differential will still lay down two strips of rubber. Interesting. We'll see what happens.

In the meantime, Im working on cleaning things up a bit. Havent had much time as I have been very busy with work (and other toys).

Gunked and washed the engine down. It was caked from an oil leak (source was a broken oil pan bolt washer - so obvious, I dont know how I missed it before. Hopefully its the only source), and with transmission fluid from the gaping hole in the tranny casing. A little high temp paint here and there to make it look shiny. As well as re-polished the valve cover and heat shielding.

Hole in Casing

Broken 5th gear shift fork. This is the piece that nearly came out of the casing.

Rear main seal replaced while I had the flywheel resurfaced.

IMAG0071_zpslog08ida.jpg~original

New Toyota thermostat - I was suspecting the old one of failure as my engine was overheating intermittently. Hopefully this fixes it, but Im also going to reroute some heater hoses as well to help with flow.

Replaced seals on the Distributor to stop an oil leak potentially sourced from there. Also tightened the valve cover bolts while I have easy access to them.

New clutchmaster FX350 - hope this is a good choice. Lots of positive feedback for clutchmaster clutches from the MR2 circle. Excited to see how it performs.

I am also waiting for some 800cc SARD injectors and a bored fuel rail. I hope this will fix the fuel starvation I was having when I revved past 6400rpm. My hope is to have the car on the road by the first of August.

I like Clutchmasters. Had an organic one in my old Honda and will likely install one in the WRX when the time comes.

Those mounts are fantastic and compliments to the chef!

Your pictures keep looking better and better fuzzy as does your car. Those 800s will give you so much more room to play!

At those power levels anything else look like its gonna need fixing? You got the axels and the trans out of the way so your good there!

You guys should teach a Mr2 class at harvard!

I <3 my Clutchmasters clutch. I went with the FX500 though, because I'm silly. :awe:

I'm going to be up in Canada for ~10 days next month. I might have to drop in and check it out!

nice depth of gear

ok now that's a bit much
...what are you in macro mode?

Hehe, Its a HTC One M8 photo feature called U-Focus. I can take a photo and focus it afterwards onto anything in the picture. Its really quite impressive.

Manimal: This is the most powerful camera I have ever owned, and its in my phone. Kinda weird.
As far as other things to fix up... Im not seeing anything at this point. Everything should be beefed up enough to handle the power I have. I have a few minor repairs to do before it goes on the road, but nothing significant.

Cookie? Thats right in my backyard.

New Shoes! finally arrived. After waiting 4 months for XXR rims they finally told the retailer that they dont know if/when they will make the rims I wanted. deeeeerrr. So I changed my choice to Rota Grid V in Hyper Black. I think I am happier with these anyways. Just hope they fit.
Just got em, may lower the car off of the jack stands tonight just to see how they fit.

Wheels are a top notch choice!

Thanks man! I'm really looking forward to seeing how they fit when I get the car back on the ground.

This morning I woke up a little early to work a bit on the car before heading to the office.

IMAG0113_zpsm91zejqr.jpg~original

Picked up a new transmission the other day. It was caked in oil and dirt, but after a thorough cleaning I managed to have it looking decent, and also gave it a quick coat of engine enamel to really make it shine. Installed it this morning.

IMAG0115_zpshvdfq87a.jpg~original

Put new seals on the transmission for good measure.

IMAG0102_zpshsyx1eby.jpg~original

Also picked up some 800cc injectors and installed them into a bored rail. This fuel rail has had the fuel delivery holes enlarged to allow for more flow through the rail. It's a common issue for stock rails to have fuel pressure problems throughout the rail. This will hopefully fix that. I've been really taking my time this go around. Cleaning everything thoroughly and not rushing. I want everything to be perfect, especially because I'm messing with fuel. Right now I'm just waiting on some copper crush gaskets for fuel delivery and the engine should be good to go back in the car.

approve!

So, when are you going to build a bulletproof (i.e. chrisfixed) forged/etc 3s/5sgte? :awe:

Put the engine back in the car yesterday. Not fully assembled yet as I am still waiting for some crush washers for fuel - but I can do that work with engine in the bay.

I am REALLY happy with the wheel fitment. My measurements were bang on.
IMAG0141_zpscsveulxj.jpg~original

Came really close with the front brakes though. About 1.5mm clearance... really close.

The front needs a driver in it!

And maybe coolant?

Very happy to see a nice, big, fuzzy update!

Contacted the seller but the shipping would have been $1500 when I was only prepared to spend $1450 on shipping. So I passed. Hey! Maybe you could bring it with you as a carry on when you fly up here?

I visited a car show yesterday but was too late to register. Didnt plan on entering anyways as I dont really think my car is show worthy. But then some guys walked by while I was about to leave and asked "dude! why isnt this in the show??" As I showed them around the car I drew a small crowd of around 8-10 people. Kinda weird.

I showed people how Megasquirt worked which got a tonne of attention. VE-Analyze Live (the auto-tune feature) really impressed a couple older guys.
The young guys were more looking at the wheel fitment and flares, while the older guys were looking at the internals.
A bit of a confidence booster. I may enter into a show coming up on the 23rd if Im not busy.

Im REALLY annoyed with the engine right now as it STILL leaks oil. I cannot figure out where its coming from.
Really cheesed about it.

This one is below the distributor but I had just changed the seals on the distributor. Cant see where it would be coming from
IMAG0156_zpsm6fnmd1k.jpg~original

this one is just above the alternator. I replaced the cam seals last fall, so I have a hard time believing thats the source. My best guess is that the valve cover gasket is not sealing properly
IMAG0166_zpshisiffzv.jpg~original

Right now I am reworking the tune. I can now rev up to the rev limit at 7200rpm. The rev problem was definitely a limitation caused by the 440cc injectors.
At first I tuned for wastegate pressure at 7PSI until I knew everything was solid.
Now I am working on making everything work at 10-12 PSI, once I know thats good Ill try bumping it up to 15-17 again.

So far so good. Just annoyed that my engine still leaks.
