my mom helped me out with my car...$500....it was used, listed for 4000.....so that helped........then again, i just spent $850 getting her a new TV and a surround sound system.....so i'll call it even for now

Yes, I would politely decline. It's hard to enjoy something that you didn't earn for yourself. I'd much rather find an inexpensive car and fix it up myself. Of course, it would be strange for my parents to buy me anything at my age.

Yes, I would politely decline. It's hard to enjoy something that you didn't earn for yourself. I'd much rather find an inexpensive car and fix it up myself. Of course, it would be strange for my parents to buy me anything at my age.

Exactly. I would never be able to accept something that expensive from my parents. I would feel like I'm stealing from them or something. The only time I would ever take any money from my parents would be if it was a loan that I would be able to pay back very quickly.

I've lived on my own and supported my self entirely since I was 18. I've never asked them for money and I've never been unable to provide for myself. I do not intend to revert and give up everything I've worked for.

Its a simple concept. Some people much prefer to purchase with their own hard earned money than asking/begging/bitching/etc to their parents for a new car, regardless on how wealthy their parents are.

Nothing, but it doesn't do anything positive for you in terms of the lessons of life. My father could afford to buy me a 540 but instead chose to buy me a 92' civic DX four years ago. still kicking, and I've learned the value of a car.

You're 22 and you're not supporting yourself? Are you going to grad school or something?

If my parents offered me a BMW 745 or whatever (like they could afford it), no way in hell would I accept it. If I NEEDed a car (like to get to work) and I couldn't afford one on my own, I'd let them buy me a POS. And I'd at least try to pay them for it.
