You should have been happy they wanted to move

As a waiter, it is always nice to not have to wait on picky people

i woulda flipped on them most likely if they had tried to bitch me out.

i might have gotten fired if they went off on the tangents i heard them talking about at the table in front of my face.

So lets see...

You get fired and they probably wind up with their meals getting comped.

I wonder who wins in that situation, eh?

no, im saying if she had personally in my face been like "its very sad for someone your age to have herpes" which she did say when i could hear her, but was out of view.

also, at this point, its a scab, thats all it was today, a scan, it looks theoretically like i could have cut my lip extremely badly with a razor shaving.

Well that means she's fvcking stupid and doesn't know the difference between cold-sores and the STD herpes. I wish they'd just call the oral version something else, it would save alot of people alot of trouble.

Dude, just slap Abreva on it the moment you feel that hard/itchy/tingly spot, and you'll never even see sores again. There might be something even stronger if you get a prescription.

Sorry MikeMike... I like you a lot an all. but I really gotta side with the customers on this one.

They handled it poorly and were rude over it, but I can totally understand their not wanting to take a chance to get infected with this. Chances are that they wont... i read that you get it when you are a young kid and it stays with you forever, so their chances are pretty slim... unless they carry it and pass it on to a kid.

but in any case... I fully understand ppl not wanting to take a chance on catching anything that lasts a lifetime.

I suffer from this, too... Once or twice a year I get them for no reason and no medicine i have tried ever does anything for me, except CARMEX which I have used since a teenager.

Sometimes... if i dont sleep enough, am run down, not feeling well and PMSing, I get two of them at the same time.

but whenever I have one, I am VERY careful who and what I touch.

the last time I had one, it was clearing up and my friends across the street were having a BBQ. I brought my own plates, silverware and drinking glass.

You have every right to be pissed off about how rude they were and how they handled it, but not for how they felt about it.

:)

If people are that anal about who serves their food they should not go out to eat

Cooks are not required to wear gloves and they work behind the scenes

How many of those cooks have cold sores?

How many of those cooks wash their hands properly?

And if anyone thinks that heat kills all the germs, dont forget salads and how the cooks have to grab the lettuce and diced tomatoes and crumpled bleu cheese with their bare hands.

the cooks are in the open mainly.

hell if you wanted to, you could watch the dish room.

the only places not visible in the employee areas are the office, and cooler/freezer, dry storage, and bathroom.

So people wanting to counter risks they can do something about is a problem to you?

No, but they couldn't have just said, "We'd like to sit by the window", or "We prefer a booth", or anything else? It does sound like the lady was being a b*tch about it.

are the salad and dessert cooks in plain view?

desert/salads are the same thing, if you look from the hardwood grille down the line you can see them.

I've sifted thru a lot of the replies in this thread, but in the end it's what you see that makes you react in most cases. It would have been interesting if the manager had the herp in plain view.

That went right over your head.

People are willing to cope with certain levels of risk. They're aware of what you mentioned. However, most people don't expect some kid with a cold sore outbreak thats possibly contagious to be carrying their food around, so it's an added risk. See what I'm saying?

What is the risk of carrying a plate around? Are you touching the food? No, the cook is. In order to carry the food you carry the plate. Anyway most restaurants have designated food runners to carry the plates to the table.

So nobody in the entire history of food service has accidentally touched the actual meal with their fingers instead of just the plate, right?

So I guess there's no risk involved when someone touches their herp with their hand, and then proceeds to touch your food, silverware, rim of your drinks, or anything else, right?

Better yet, go back and read the thread for more information about possible transmission. Obviously you're missing something here.

MikeMike,

I also want to say I agree with you in that the customer was totally out of line with the way she handled things. However, I can see why she may feel the way that she does.

i can too, but ugh they disgusted me.

they have come in before, and if they cant complain about something with the food, they complain about the service. if the service was to good to complain about, they probably will complain about dirty silverware, or unclean linens.

i have one now.

im a waiter at a restraunt, and i get seated today, greet the table, say hi, etc etc, go and grab their waters.

by the time i come back out they have complained, and moved tables.

why? because i have a cold sore. they didnt want me to be their water, they wouldnt TOUCH the drinks i brought them.

then, the bitch has the nerve to come up and anally ream out the manager for allowing people with herpes, and open sores to serve, and how unsafe it is, and unhealthy.

bitch, you should go get an STD yourself and i bet atleast one person in that bullshlt table you just sat with has herpes.

o yea, lets not forget they complained about everything, she asked for a pasta, she got the pasta, then said she doesnt want the cheese on the pasta, so she cancelled it, then they complained more about me and being able to serve, and then they got their food comped etc.

they do this every weekend.

fvcking ignorant bitch.

o yea, i forgot, i wanted to bitch this table out so badly, i have had cold sores since i was 6 or earlier, anytime i walked past their table they would stop talking, when i could hear them, they were talking sh;t about how embarrasing it is for someone my age to have it etc etc.

Think nothing of em they're just some bitches that have no lives
