bitch, you should go get an STD yourself and i bet atleast one person in that bullshlt table you just sat with has herpes.

o yea, lets not forget they complained about everything, she asked for a pasta, she got the pasta, then said she doesnt want the cheese on the pasta, so she cancelled it, then they complained more about me and being able to serve, and then they got their food comped etc.

they do this every weekend.

fvcking ignorant bitch.

o yea, i forgot, i wanted to bitch this table out so badly, i have had cold sores since i was 6 or earlier, anytime i walked past their table they would stop talking, when i could hear them, they were talking sh;t about how embarrasing it is for someone my age to have it etc etc.

how did you get it when you were 6? did your mom or dad have it and they passed it on to you?

I don't know anything about this either, but now that I know, I probably would not want you to serve my table either...

J. Alexanders is good food!

Of course, that's something I'd really want to do, but doubt I would.

im waiting till they come back, and i dont have a cold sore to wait on them.

also sygyzy, yes they are contagious, but the only way would be if like i spit in their food, drank from their glass, wiped my cold sore, and then grabbed their straw, or ate from their fork.

when i have a cold sore, i never touch it except at home before/after a shower and when i put on abreva.

MIKEMIKE - Based on your history of posts, and specifically this rant, plus the industry you work in, you expect me to believe that there is little to no risk of infection (purpose or otherwise)? The restaurant industry is extremely dirty. You mentioend that you work for a publicly traded company. I am thinking Applebees, Carrows, etc. Not some fancy 4 star restaurant where the head chef and proprieters have pride in their business. Then you mix that with your occupation - waiter. A job that is characterized by people who believe their customers OWE them something (ie bigger tips), feel they are underappreciated, are vindictive, and feel that the customers are the enemy.

I'll further clarify. If you had to guess what activity throughout the day that you or a normal food service participates in would have the highest chance of spreading infection, what would it be? Would it be driving your car? Would it be walking down the street? Or would it be spitting in the food of the people who "put food on your table", as you put food on theirs?

the company is J Alexanders not applebees or what not.

they push it as fine dining, its middle priced, but depending upon who you ask, damn good food.

im a server, not a waiter, i dont wait on tables, i serve tables.

episodic. Herpes is contagious yes, over 90% of americans have it, and it can go in the system without EVERY showing signs for an entire lifetime.

i dont touch my face at all ever during the shift, my forhead yes, but my face is never touched and if i do, i NEVER touch the cold sore, it doesnt feel good to touch it, so i dont.

i'm sure you're very careful, but I don't think most people would want to take the chance of getting....

Well, at least it's the lesser of two evil herpes. Abreva ftw ?

yup abreva FTW, it takes me about a week to get it to go away.

The nexttime you go to your primary-care physician, ask for a prescription strength medicine to help. I used to get cold-sores fairly often as a kid, and the virus was bad at times where I would get 3-4 or more around my mouth at a time. Pretty sucky. I've tried various prescription meds over the years and the bext one now seems to be Valtrex. The thing is, once the medicine starts getting into your system, the outbreaks are much less severe and less frequent. I usually only have an outbreak once or twice a year now, at most. When I start to feel the tingle, I take 2 pills and then take one every 8 hours or so. Within the 1st day or so, it is already starting to go way. Works like a champ!

Good luck!

I'll say it too - I wouldn't want my dinner experience to involve someone with a noticeable contagious disease serving my food either. It's just not comfortable... there's a reason I went out to a sit-down restaurant and not a fast food place on a particular night. Sure you may be careful but I don't want to be sorry either.

Anyway, if they really pull that sh!t in some form every week, I'd be pissed too - I'll agree that much. The rest... I just don't want to be your lucky customer when you have the sores.

from webMD, where most = >90%

+90% have herpes? So it's not really a "dangerous" disease then, I suppose? I know nothing about this disease.

nope, you cant die, it cant kill you, it cant harm you, it cant do anything but look bad.

No, it just wraps around the base of your spinal cord for the rest of your life, causing repeat outbursts and making you highly contagious even when you don't have a sore, meaning anyone you kiss might get it. And even worse, if you go down on someone, they can get it on their genitals, and now they can spread it through genital contact. So its not exactly as harmless as you make it sound, especially since there is no cure.

I know its not your fault you have it, and there's no shame in it, but they were not unreasonable to ask for another server, although I understand its embarrasing when people call attention to it. If you hand them a napkin, straw, etc. after inadvertantly touching it, and they put that to their mouths, they can get it.

Thats because it remains dormant in that spot for the rest of your life. If you notice one elsewhere, then it has spread, and now it will reappear in both places. So don't rub your lips together when you have one, or touch it unless you wash your hands immediately after you do. And don't dry it with a towel either if you plan to use that towel again before its been washed.

Its not nearly as bad as you make it sound. The transmittance of a dormant HSV1 is almost nil if you dont have a breakout. Alos HSV1 does not survive for long on the genitals and HSV2 dosent survive long in the mouth so it most likely wont be permanant on the genitals.

Everyone is blowing this way out of porportion. 80-95% of people iwll get it in their lifetime anyway.

I don't think he was saying it would never die; but if you don't want to risk spreading it to other areas of your anatomy, it wouldn't be very wise to touch the sore, then type, and then touch another part of your body. Might not be a very high chance of actually happening, but why take the risk.

As for the customers, I can see it from their perspective in that I might have asked to switch tables as well. They don't really seem to know you very well, and your grooming habits even less so. Based solely on how many people I've seen use the restroom and then leave without washing their hands, my opinion of the average person's hygiene is not very high. You say you wouldn't do anything to risk spreading the virus, but they don't know that.

Then again, I wouldn't have talked badly about the server or asked for a free meal. I simply would've switched tables.

Dangerous as in it will kill you, no. But dangerous as in you can spread it to mouth or genitals even if you don't have visible sores at the moment, yes. I don't know about you, but an open, bloody, painful sore on my dick that is visible and spreadable to people I have sex with is something I consider very "dangerous".

The reason 80% sounds high but really isn't is because many people that get it never have a single outbreak or any other symptom. For some reason, it just doesn't affect them at all, so they'll never even know they have it. The percentage is just a medical guess anyway, as you'd have to test everybody in the country to say for sure.

The last number I heard was ~75%, which is still pretty darn high. However, it's not something I'm looking to catch if I can help it.

IIRC, the length of time it "lives" is mainly determined by the material its on, and on some materials it can't "live" at all. For instance, IIRC, in can stay on a towel for a few days, but if that towel is washed on HOT, then its clean. I can't imagine it lives at all on plastic, but I'm not a doctor. I wouldn't worry about your keyboard, in fact the only thing I WOULD worry about is transmitting it to your SO (ie, don't kiss her or go down on her while you have an open sore).

Other than that, just wash your hands ALOT when you have a sore, don't dry yourself (genitals, unaffected parts of your lips, etc.) with the same towel you dry your sore with, don't rub your lips together when you have a sore, and most importantly, slap Abreva on it the moment you feel it coming. It prevents the sore from "growing", so if you hit it right when you feel the tingle/itch/bump that precedes the sore, you (and everybody else) won't even see it. Do that, and it will cease to affect your life.

If you've always used medicines, then maybe it hasn't been painful. But if you just let the sores go untreated, they can get big and hurt/itch. You'd know better than I, but all this info came from a doctor friend of mine. When one of my old college girlfriends had a cold sore, I asked him about it, and this is what he told me (his mother had them so he said he'd done some research). Again, I myself am not a doctor, so ask yours and by all means, listen to him instead of me.

Look, I'm not trying to be offensive. Just ask your doctor (and by all means, listen to him instead of me) or read up, and as long as you know how it works and what to do, its no big deal and no one else (including rude-ass customers) will ever even know you have it.
