okay, i get cold sores, as does over 80% of the U.S. population.

i have one now.

im a waiter at a restraunt, and i get seated today, greet the table, say hi, etc etc, go and grab their waters.

by the time i come back out they have complained, and moved tables.

why? because i have a cold sore. they didnt want me to be their water, they wouldnt TOUCH the drinks i brought them.

then, the bitch has the nerve to come up and anally ream out the manager for allowing people with herpes, and open sores to serve, and how unsafe it is, and unhealthy.

bitch, you should go get an STD yourself and i bet atleast one person in that bullshlt table you just sat with has herpes.

o yea, lets not forget they complained about everything, she asked for a pasta, she got the pasta, then said she doesnt want the cheese on the pasta, so she cancelled it, then they complained more about me and being able to serve, and then they got their food comped etc.

they do this every weekend.

fvcking ignorant bitch.

o yea, i forgot, i wanted to bitch this table out so badly, i have had cold sores since i was 6 or earlier, anytime i walked past their table they would stop talking, when i could hear them, they were talking sh;t about how embarrasing it is for someone my age to have it etc etc.

Because your manager is rewarding them for their poor behavior.

Perhaps the manager will wake up and realize the best thing for your business is to have that customer go somewhere else and get free food.

they cant do crap, its a publicly traded company, which really limits what they can do.

Damn man, how bad was it that they took notice and actually complained? I don't get cold sores, but I've seen some people that do. It usually doesn't look that bad.

I doubt the lady gives a damn about cold sores. She probably saw it and thought "JACKPOT!!!".

Wait until you're ready to quit, embarrass them, and walk out. Unless you want to not burn your bridges.

Of course, that's something I'd really want to do, but doubt I would.

im waiting till they come back, and i dont have a cold sore to wait on them.

also sygyzy, yes they are contagious, but the only way would be if like i spit in their food, drank from their glass, wiped my cold sore, and then grabbed their straw, or ate from their fork.

when i have a cold sore, i never touch it except at home before/after a shower and when i put on abreva.

MIKEMIKE - Based on your history of posts, and specifically this rant, plus the industry you work in, you expect me to believe that there is little to no risk of infection (purpose or otherwise)? The restaurant industry is extremely dirty. You mentioend that you work for a publicly traded company. I am thinking Applebees, Carrows, etc. Not some fancy 4 star restaurant where the head chef and proprieters have pride in their business. Then you mix that with your occupation - waiter. A job that is characterized by people who believe their customers OWE them something (ie bigger tips), feel they are underappreciated, are vindictive, and feel that the customers are the enemy.

I'll further clarify. If you had to guess what activity throughout the day that you or a normal food service participates in would have the highest chance of spreading infection, what would it be? Would it be driving your car? Would it be walking down the street? Or would it be spitting in the food of the people who "put food on your table", as you put food on theirs?

So wait, you're mad because they don't want to be served by someone with a contagious disease?

the company is J Alexanders not applebees or what not.

they push it as fine dining, its middle priced, but depending upon who you ask, damn good food.

im a server, not a waiter, i dont wait on tables, i serve tables.

episodic. Herpes is contagious yes, over 90% of americans have it, and it can go in the system without EVERY showing signs for an entire lifetime.

i dont touch my face at all ever during the shift, my forhead yes, but my face is never touched and if i do, i NEVER touch the cold sore, it doesnt feel good to touch it, so i dont.

The virus that causes cold sores is common. Most people have been infected with this virus (herpes simplex virus, or HSV) by the time they reach adulthood.

Although most people have been exposed to HSV, only about 20% to 40% develop recurring cold sores.1 Once infected, the virus remains inactive in the body until it is triggered by something such as sunlight exposure or stress. Once active, the virus results in a cold sore outbreak.

from webMD, where most = >90%

+90% have herpes? So it's not really a "dangerous" disease then, I suppose? I know nothing about this disease.
