I cleared my stuff out of the company 1 ton Sunday, did the last excavation for them Monday.
Took that truck back to the office yesterday.
I met with the FNG ( Friendly New Guy ) at the office, and hitched a ride with him today to the job site.
I showed him the iron, the dump truck, the job, and introduced him to the crew.
Then he dropped me off to take a bus to the new home.
It remains to be seen if he has the temperment for this gig, but that is not my problem.
I'll have a day here and there until he is covered on the insurance, then my hat is hung up.
I'm all full up on this shizzle.

Congrats, I worked at the same company for 40 years, from a dumb laborer to the senior running the field and the "go to", and when I retired I looked forward to it and missed it at the same time. I think you know what I mean (or will in the next year) ;)

The house build and driveway and infrastructure and future shop/ADU will temper all that for me. I am too busy to miss work right now ;)
Where is your Eastern Washington summer home/cabin build pics? I know you were helping a friend on that project last year.

I am done with that. That was an asymmetrical relationship. When I needed help here he got really busy, you know what I mean? It was fun and no regrets, but no more participation by me.

I HATE when people decide that they’re done returning favors or bail out on me after agreeing to help!

Just keep your mouth shut with the “How-can-I-help” bs if you don’t actually plan on doing it!!

explain. Why wouldn’t he be covered by the insurance from day 1?
Just guessing, but in my company there was a probationary period after first hire before our benefits package kicked in.
It helped separate the wheat from the chaff (and a lot of paperwork to first add and then remove someone from our benefits package)
(Worker's Comp and such was day one of course, as were any state and fed mandates)

Yeah, I was able to retire early so (by myself) I remodeled the kitchen, 2 bathrooms, the dining room, the living room and a bedroom down to the bare studs, one at a time. Installed a whole house genset system and rewired all those rooms (along with a new main panel) and built 2 decks. Kept me busy for 6 years until the wife retired, now we have all day together (and you'll find that to be a double-edged sword ;)), rather than me being gone at work 10-14 hrs a day.

I know SkyKing is a union Opererating Engineer, and from previous conversations, his company is union, so health insurance comes from the union, not the company. BUT, if the guy is new to the union, or is out of hours, then he'd have to work acouple of months to earn his eligibility

His driving record takes a few days, then submit that to the commercial carrier insurance for CDL.
*That* insurance.
I am sure it is all done now :)

Gotcha. Makes sense...I guess. Working out of crane rental houses, hire on, climb in the rig and go. If your driving record raised red flags, back to the union hall you went.

Brother is now doing well at home and rehabbing. he had an L4 L5 S1 fusion about 10 days ago and took a long time getting out of the hospital. Opioids totally hosed his BP and he went cold turkey in a few days and is on Tylenol only now.
Wednesday I took some tools down to the office and spoke to the new guy and my good friend there. It is going well and I am making a pretty dang clean getaway, LOL.
They had originally wanted my help on a tricky job at a state office, but I hear none of that talk now. New guy can handle it fine.

He has my spider box on loan, and is replacing my 100' plus cord on the 3rd. Then to the curb he goes along with an entire web community I used to frequent. It has descended heavily into the magazone as far as I am concerned. Just gonna walk away as part of my new freedoms.

The house build has necessarily gone on to hold for a while. I expect to spend about 2 months caring for my wife, who fell and broke her pelvis.
(Acetabulum).
I might get away for a day or two now and again, but the 200 mile round trip commute is pretty daunting.

Me too. There's about 8 weeks of non-weight bearing so that's going to be the goal to get past.

So very sorry to hear that about your wife. I've been watching the progress of your house build since the beginning and have been in complete awe of what you both have accomplished. Please give her all our wishes for a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that, just don't let her rush the recovery, my buddy's wife did and ended up having to have surgery to correct the misalignment and shift (it was a complete break, not a fracture).

We are navigating the path forward now. She is learning the best ways to move and I put the bathroom scale under her foot so she can better gauge 30 pounds. I think I will put a short horizontal behind the diagonal for the Up maneuver, but she slides down it nicely on the down maneuver.
It would be right across from that right hand bar.

My wife is ummm "generous" sized and while we do have grab bars in the walk-in shower and in the tub area also, she wanted an additional one.
I got her this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095WB5RWJ
She's used it 2 years, twice a day, every day and although she has had her full weight on it numerous times ("clumsy" runs in her family) that sucker has yet to budge !!

I have a similar story here. I'll drill and bolt anything I want to put up, because my 4" tile grout lines would let the suction out.
