LOLiberals how typically authoritarian of them.

You can't fix stupid. if people want to fill up on sugary soft drinks, get fat, get diabetes, be a drag on the country ... I guess they have the right to do it.

You can't legislate yourself out of stupidity.

while we're at it let's outlaw bacon, buffets, non-lean beef, hfcs, candy/candy bars, fried anything, pizza and whatever else libs deem dangerous to our health.

We're on the way. Those will either be banned or carry a "fat tax". Though I don't think HFCS will ever be put under scrutiny, the corn lobby seems to have super powers.

If we are going to tax fatness, why not literally tax fatness? Everyone can report to the city of their birth for yearly weight ins and be taxed accordingly

No one is outlawing anything. You could buy two sodas, or go to the store and buy as many 32 oz bottles of soda as you like. Way to freak out over a minor change.
Are you as outraged at righties restrictions? Illegal pot, no alcohol sales on Sundays, dry counties, 55mph speed limit for many years, helmet laws (signed by gov Pete Wilson here), seat belt laws (signed by Rep. Gov George Deukmejian), and Republican Senator Danforth tried to ban Superbikes for many years.
By all means get mad at government overreach, but to try and blame this crap on only liberals is BS.

I'm just amazed that government has the time to regulate consumption behavior.

Yes fat people are a scourge on society, but this will not stop them from being fat. They need a complete lifestyle change, which cannot be legislated.

Old people cause more problems with the system due to how many resources they consume to keep on kicking. Pretty soon how long we live is going to be regulated too.

I'm not agreeing with the ban on sugary drinks but isn't what is being practiced what the small government conservatives preach, i.e., small/local governments passing laws that they feel are representative of their constituents? Don't like it, move to another city.

No, not really. The majority public outcry is curiously lacking for that to be true. More like it is that some politician decided that they should micromanage other peoples lives through the power of their office. What the people want is irrelevant to them.

I'm surprised rival democrats haven't jumped on this yet. They would label it as racist then give their reason as "all black people eat at KFC" or say it's declaring war against poor people because "poor people are forced to eat at mcdonalds"

Is it election time again? Time for left wingnuts to start shooting themselves in the foot.
Do they not understand that the point is to try and win the election?

As if banning refills in restaurants is going to do anything to solve the whole Nation of Fatasses problem we got going.

Im afraid the public record and reality (aka facts) simply do not support your theory.

Her official website does not list any particular party affiliation.

MOst of her agenda seems pretty harmless/community friendly.

http://www.henriettadavis.org/about.php#goals

I dont get these food bans though. Its no where near the same as banning smoking in public places.

Now if we could just kill those corn subsidies, then all this high fructose crap wouldnt be so cheap...

Instead of legislating sugary drinks, why not do to the fatties what they did to the smokers--alienate them and make them feel bad for their choices. Lots of TV ads, maybe from thetruth.org or whatever the site is. At least it might be entertaining to watch--like the bullhorns in front of the buildings, they could just have the bullhorns in front of the fatties walking in the streets.

The fatties will either commit suicide, lose wait or just go get another soda--BUT AT LEAST THEY SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE.
