Seriously, a free pen drive? Or was that a joke? I'm gonna go, make my mom go too, my 9 year old brother, and my dad. Then I'll take their pen drives and tell em to leave

No, it's not a joke. Check the web page, on the left hand side you'll see a picture of the 32mb pen drive right under "Attend a technical event Apr 1 - Jun 30."

You'll probably have a hard time passing your 9 year old brother off as an employee at the hands-on seminars though. ;)

There is no pen drive at the event. Did you guys not notice that this even is not a Technical Event and does not show up in the technical event list at all? All the events that you get a pen drive at are pay events, so it isn't even really free.

I was referring to the events in the MS for Partners e-mail - which you didn't get, did you?

I posted the information here, in an MS related thread, for potentially interested parties to make use of. Nowhere did I claim that it was for this event.

And no, not all of the events they give a pen drive away at are pay events - but you wouldn't have bothered to look over the list, right?

There are rsvp codes in the Partners e-mail to make certain events free, and if you'll notice, there are also free webcasts (no codes required) on the linked list of "qualifying" events.

Let me know if you need it broken down further, maybe using hand puppets will help explain it to you in a way you could understand.

LOL. For someone who claims to have "looked over the list" you didn't notice that not a single Launch Event was listed in the events list? Yet you still claimed that you get a free USB drive. If you are not claiming that a pen drive is available for this event, which you acknowledge later it is not, then why did you say that? You are intentionally misleading people to believe that they are going to get a free pen drive at this event. Let me break this down for you:

"Guys, if you are interested, there are also plenty of informative Microsoft Technical events planned in your area, which you can sign up for via this link. As a bonus for attending any of these events you will receive a 32MB USB Drive! Some of these events are FREE and others are not. Note that the Windows Server 2003 Launch Event is not a technical event, and therefore the free USB drive does not apply to it."

That took zero thought to come up with that, and is far more informative than your attempt at "information."

Let me break something else down for you:

THIS IS A HOT DEALS FORUM

As such, everyone who browses the hot deals forum is looking for free/cheap stuff, and will do darn near anything to get that stuff. When you post a response in a particular thread causing people to believe that they will get something broad appeal and usefulness (and by that I mean something useful to everyone, not just IT professionals/developers, like the free server and dev software) for free that they will in fact NOT GET, then you are not helping anyone. You are hurting the chances for people that the launch event is actually targeted at. All you get is a bunch of people registering for an event with no real interest other than getting a free toy. Then people who saw this thread and would actually need or use a free copy of Windows Server 2003 potentially miss out because events get full from people signing up their "mom, dad and 9-year old brother." Who knows how many people like that registered for the already-full NYC event?

Still no email. I guess I won't be able to go. They said I would receive something in 24 hours.

And still, you haven't bothered to note that "this event" was never mentioned as qualifying.

Bull, here's the quote.

You might want to keep an eye peeled for the MS for Partners e-mail.

They've got a number of free online and offline courses for Windows 2003, and they're giving away a free 32mb usb pen drive to everyone attending either way.

This event was not mentioned, and as I stated before, "I posted the information here, in an MS related thread, for potentially interested parties to make use of. (And "either way" means by attending either the online or offline courses in the e-mail, or offered through the site.)

Now, again, if you're too thick to understand it... but it's not really my job to make sure you do, is it?

All I did was give a heads up, and the second time, the link.

You can't handle that? Feel free to go flush yourself.

:Violins playing in the background:

Hmm, wha?

It seems to me that your problem is with the original poster of this thread.

After all, he posted it on a public forum, and listed all the "free prizes", and god knows, he should hold the hand of everyone signing up for it.

can one just arrive pickup their free stuff and leave? I'm going to a surf film preview before the event and am not really interested in staying for the whole thing. I'm also going to be wearing shorts and a tshirt to the movie preview. Is it considered taboo to wear that attire at these events?

Yeah, there was a post on the boards about how to order the free Eval CD so I think it'll be a waste. I registered but I'm not going anymore after registering to get the CD :)
