care to make any other ignorant generalizations? French intellectuals are no more or less likely to be anti american than intellectuals in any other country, including the US. They're not another species you realize. "They" are just like "us". We're the same thing...do you see?

What precisely do you puppets have against France anyway? You saw on Fox News that France was "bad" and now you hate them? You guys do realize that virtually everyone in the entire world was opposed to the U.S. action in Iraq, and you people are pissed because the French actually stood up to us? Now the US is saying boohoo....

rolleye.gif
Had to start the reply with that because of the stupid Fox News comment. Did you listen to a pro-French piece on NPR and decide that you liked them?

Here's the issue, since the more self-discovery method didn't work for you: The French, our alleged allies, deliberately worked to cultivate negative reaction to US/UK plans (Brits hate the French more than we do), and then when faced with even the possibility that the US could garner UNSC support, the French threatened a blanket veto to anything that was tabled before the UNSC. These actions followed on the promise of French support back in late 2002 when they were asked by Secretary Powell about a second vote on Iraq when the first resolution (which they supported, BTW) was being discussed.

You seem to believe that the French countered the US out of some glorious Gallic notion of honor and respect for international law. Why don't you remove your head from your nether regions and look for their real motivations, which are not so snowy white as you seem to believe.

BTW, when was the last time you read a French newspaper? I craft my perceptions of the French from there.

And I also disagree with the notion of us having a reason to be mad.. I believe we had the right to disagree and take the action we did but we should respect the right of other nations to disagree and do what is in their own best interest.

There are lots of us who despised the French way before the current situation started heating up. F*ck the whole arrogant, socialist, anti-semitic lot of them.

(please note when i say "the French," i'm talking about their governmental and intellectual class, not the ordinary Jacques Shmoe private citizen frenchman just minding his own business. i'd no more abuse that person than Joe Sixpack here in the U.S. deserves crap for his government's conduct)

I've always despised the French. This latest Iraq stuff only underscored my hatred for the French. They are filthy people both literally and figuratively. They are spineless snobs who have no right to be snobby about anything until they discover the modern miracle of "underarm deodorant".

The pro-Saddam Frog lovers would love to think my distain for the French is recent and a result of some campaign by the guy they claim is so stupid. He can't be that stupid... at least he's not a democrat and still scouring the ground for chads. :p

that was the stuff found in ONE location. I know about 3rd and 4th party sales and arms dealers, I also know you didn't see any US stuff ending up there, we managed to keep track of the stuff coming from our MANY defense contractors, but the "opposing" nations couldn't? Just a coincidence eh....

Judging from your reply, I doubt that you know french intellectualism and it's history of anti-americanism (a derivative of anti-anglo-saxonism). Read up more then I'll accept your apology.

France claims to be the victim of a smear campaign

Maybe they shouldn't have bought all that oil outside of the UN sanctions and banked on having Iraq as a business partner?

Cry me a river of those crocodile tears, France.

People in the US are having too much hating France to care if what they read is true or not.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. I've always wondered why people waste so much time hating other people...seems like a pointless endeavor to me. Oh well.. :)

Because it makes them feel better about their own shallow lives.

I'm not sure if I like the French... but I sure hate anti-intellectual conservative bigots and just the few of them I see on the forums makes me want to puke everytime.

...or that he underlying principles of our country was inspired by a French intellect Descartes?

Well, that was intelligent.

What are you doing? Are you trying to be funny? That's ignorant. Everyone SHOULD care where Iraq is. It has an important bearing on how we interact with them and their neighbors. Even their geography is important. It defines who their people are and how they live. It also has a bearing on what kinds of goods are exported from a country. I'm sorry to get personal, but it really ticks me off when somebody tries to justify the ignorance of the American masses.

As for Carbondyl, open your eyes. When was the last time Americans liked the Chinese?! Nobody likes them. The difference is, France was supposed to be our ally. When they decided not to back this war (and, in fact, vehemently oppose it), they put themselves on the list of countries we dislike. You want some facts about France? They specifically sold IIRC 22 fighter jets to Iraq on credit that it had not repaid. I also watched a former Iraqi defector on the history channel speak a couple of months back. He was once at the head of the chemical and nuclear weapons program in Iraq, a fact which is undisputed (whether or not you agree with what he claims). He claims that he was sent, by Iraq, to France to negotiate the sale of a nuclear reactor. While there, he was told to say that it was for "energy purposes." He said that the French company made it clear that they didn't care what it was for as long as he had the money. The day that it was supposed to be loaded onto a ship, there was an explosion that caused extensive damage to the reactor. He said that he's pretty sure the Israelis did that, but he can't prove that.

If you see the tape, you look at the guy and his family and tell me he's lying. His story was very compelling.

Personally, I'm upset that it's now popular to hate the French. I've hated them for years. Now it's almost cliche.

Nope, still don't care where Iraq is.

Your argument about geography is real ignorance. We are all on planet earth. The lines drawn on maps are just that, lines.

And I wasn't trying to justify anything. We all know how dumb the average person is and it gets really depressing when you realize that 50% of the population is dumber than that average.

If I only read the end of your post I'd think you wre agreeing with me. However, at the beginning of your post you seem to promote ignorance and the fact that most Americans don't know their geography as being two qualities that are less than reprehensible. Wake up. Try to pull yourself out of the idealistic haze through which you see the world. Yeah, it's everyone's world and nobody really "owns" land, yadda yadda yadda. Bullsh!t. Regardless of who owns or controls anything, the fact that there are people that rule over lands that are divided by man-made boundaries makes those boundaries significant. The geography itself is significant as well, especially when it comes to understanding wars and things like those same political boundaries. Many times people fight over certain areas of land because of their seaports or their strategic advantages. The Golan Heights, for example, were an area of contestion after the 6-Day War because of their terrain. But that's not important, is it? That's all the way over in Israel and that doesn't affect us.

Iraq's cowardly attack on the US was certainly criminal, France's refusal to come to the US's aid at such perilous times is equally cowardly and not the actions of an Ally.

France is simply doing what is popular now... speak out against the US, and foil any attempts to appear you are WITH the US on any controversial issue. This is simply thier version of the war on terror. If you look anti american you may avoid the fate of terror attacks on your own soil. Look out for your own hide and screw everyone else. After all the US wouldnt terrorize the French would they? So side up with those bold enough to cut your throat if you dont agree with them. Such is the way it was when Hitler reigned and now is the way with the terrorists.

Just like what most US citizens are doing...hating France because it is popular.
