It is different because it is different. You either see the difference or you do not. There is no point in me trying to logically explain why it is different because as a conservative who may not want to see the difference you won't. I could give you the logic and you may rationalize it away. It is pointless to try to make pigs fly because it frustrates the instructor with the hopelessness of the task and it pisses off the pigs. Actually, of course, it doesn't piss off the pigs, it just brings to the surface how pissed off the pigs already are.

Try to see this only as the use of a existent metaphor with no intention in any way to imply that you are a pig. Similarly, the brain defect term I use is only defective in situations where fear needs to be modulated by logic and reason, not in situations where a more liberal brain may fail to react to an immediate danger and slow the response time fatally by thinking. Panic and strategic analysis each have their places. Thinking for a liberal brain means the rational analysis of context based on scientific understanding. Thinking for a conservative means finding rationalizations to avoid truth that damage the ego. These aren't absolutes but accurate generalities, provided, of course, you can rationally deal with the data that so indicates.

So again, your claims of similarity are, upon analysis of the context, not accurate. I read the analysis the other day when the claim you are making here was made elsewhere and rebutted but I don't now remember where.

Forgive me but I'm a bit jaded with arguing logic on P & N. The central theme of the difference is relative importance of the issues for the different Presidents which refers to the fact that Obamacare is a seminal achievement.
Perhaps I am indeed an ignorant pig incapable of seeing or understanding the complexities of enlightened thought, or an angry pig who's thinking revolves around finding rationalizations with the sole purpose of avoiding enlightened "truths" which may potentially threaten or damage my frail piggish ego. You (of all people) must know that's a hell of a lot for a lowly pig (or conservative) to take in...so I think I'll just head back to my sty, eat my swill and cogitate on such weighty scientific generalities while pretending that I might someday catch a glimpse of that which is apparently impossible for pigs like me to understand.

If anything the government Slimdown is a good thing because it eliminates government waste and gets rid of all the non essential government employees. If you see a Republican congressman thank him for eliminating the unimportant people doing non essential work that are no longer on the government teat.

Geed grief, Fox is altering AP articles before running them. Original AP article:

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/storie...L_MEDIA?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

Fox Spin:

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/10/02/americans-turn-to-social-media-to-air-feelings-on-slimdown/

These fuckers aren't even trying to hide it anymore.

OK, that's pretty deceitful. It's one thing for their own opeds to call it whatever they want, but changing someone else's words is low.

I'm kind of surprised that isn't a breach of their contract with AP. I would imagine they have the right to edit articles for length but it's interesting that they could edit for content as well.

And this. I don't know much about the details of journalism and how the AP operates, but this seems like it borders on breaking some of the rules.

That's to date, obviously. What happens Oct 17 if this continues?

So you concede that up to this point it is just a slimdown?

My understanding was that even after the debt ceiling is breached the government still has enough incoming funds to meet the vast majority of its obligations. And thanks to the slimdown the obligations have shrunk.

So. uhh, the "slimdown" is now permanent?

Perhaps you'd care to source the basis of your "understanding", such as it is.

Can you see that you would never have responded as you did were that not I evoked what you already feel. All one has to do is mention the word pig to a person who feels himself to be a pig to make him feel you are calling him a pig. Also, you should know that the only person who can have the insight I have into you is via self knowledge. From one pig to another, let me just say Hi. The feelings we have regarding how we are treated are projections of how we really feel. It is the need to pretend otherwise, to deny this truth, that starts the process of denial. The moment I start thinking of you as treating me like a pig tells me how I feel myself. I can only tell you it's no easy matter to really know this.

In my book, being a lucky guesser beats being a ridiculously trite and argumentative jerk any day of the week!

When tossing out numbers, you obviously need to source them, well, if you're to be believed. We're not all dittoheads.

So the original 80% was just pulled out of your ass?

Unsurprising.

I admitted it was a guess in Post #43. Either you missed it or have a serious reading comprehension issue.

Dittoheads? Trite and argumentative to the end.

FWIW the stat according to the news last night was 18% closed (so 82% still open) which equals 800,000 jobs furloughed.

A pig cannot choose to be anything but a pig. I know what I am much better than you think. However, I'm not sure that you're fully aware of the feelings you evoke in this particular pig by holding up a mirror to my ugliness as you perceive it to be...you may think you know the depth on my ugliness...but you don't. You may think your helping me...but you aren't. If you want to discuss...discuss. If you want to rub my nose in pig shit...thanks, but I'll pass. It's not a game.

I know you feel worthless because I know I do. The only difference between us is that I know and you don't. You have to imagine I think I'm a butterfly because that's exactly what you are doing yourself. You think you don't hate yourself and feel like a worthless piece of shit nor do you see that's why you want me to feel that way. So let me just say how sorry I am that I have this terrible inner need to see myself as a butterfly, in my typical delusional state of course, and you as a piece of crap.

I am fantastic beyond your wildest dreams, probably the most fantastic person with whom you've ever been in contact and the big big enlightenment waiting for you when you become as fantastic as me, if you ever do, is the realization that you're so fantastic there's nothing left to do but hop others begin to feel fantastic too. Every fuck you that you hear from my lips is the fuck yourself you self issue. Is it any wonder you live in terror of the nanny state. You are your own nanny. I have the greatest contempt for the contempt you have of yourself. Be a butterfly like me. It will tickle you pink.

Another poster offered that 80% of the govt was still running. When challenged, he hasn't replied.

I challenge your characterization that "most" of the govt is still running for the same reasons. It smells funny, like you just pulled it out of your ass...

Googling is not hard:

http://www.businessinsider.com/government-shutdown-80-of-federal-employees-keep-working-2013-10

The % is based on the number of govt employees (and in some cases civilian contractors working for the govt) who will remain on the job during the partial shutdown.

"Shutdown" is a misleading term. E.g., I've seen posters here talk about not getting mail etc when the postal dept isn't affected at all. But their misunderstanding is understandable when the term shutdown is employed.

Based on the numbers I've seen it's pretty safe to say 75% of government functions and activities are still ongoing. Anyone who thinks stopping 25% (the "non critical" functions) is a "government shutdown" is a complete idiot.

Slimdown seems like a good description.

You imagine it's all about rubbing your nose in something you are in a constant state of rubbing your nose in which is why you experience me as rubbing your nose in it. Your ugliness is a feeling, an illusion, a program you learned to run by being put down by folk from whom you needed love to survive. You bent so you wouldn't die. Only you can forgive yourself for hating yourself and never being guilty.
