I know you feel worthless because I know I do. The only difference between us is that I know and you don't. You have to imagine I think I'm a butterfly because that's exactly what you are doing yourself. You think you don't hate yourself and feel like a worthless piece of shit nor do you see that's why you want me to feel that way. So let me just say how sorry I am that I have this terrible inner need to see myself as a butterfly, in my typical delusional state of course, and you as a piece of crap.

I am fantastic beyond your wildest dreams, probably the most fantastic person with whom you've ever been in contact and the big big enlightenment waiting for you when you become as fantastic as me, if you ever do, is the realization that you're so fantastic there's nothing left to do but hop others begin to feel fantastic too. Every fuck you that you hear from my lips is the fuck yourself you self issue. Is it any wonder you live in terror of the nanny state. You are your own nanny. I have the greatest contempt for the contempt you have of yourself. Be a butterfly like me. It will tickle you pink.

I was wrong, you're not even a pig who thinks he's a butterfly. You're a maggot with cardboard wings stapled to your back.

Based on the numbers I've seen it's pretty safe to say 75% of government functions and activities are still ongoing. Anyone who thinks stopping 25% (the "non critical" functions) is a "government shutdown" is a complete idiot.

Slimdown seems like a good description.

To be clear, only blithering, partisan tools call this a slimdown.

FYI.

And only blithering, partisan tools are getting themselves frothed up over the blithering, partisan tools who use the phrase.

Googling is not hard:

http://www.businessinsider.com/government-shutdown-80-of-federal-employees-keep-working-2013-10

The % is based on the number of govt employees (and in some cases civilian contractors working for the govt) who will remain on the job during the partial shutdown.

"Shutdown" is a misleading term. E.g., I've seen posters here talk about not getting mail etc when the postal dept isn't affected at all. But their misunderstanding is understandable when the term shutdown is employed.

Fern
Yes and in troubling times such as these the need to promote a sense of calm among the masses is important. Shutdown is a potentially inflammatory term that could lead to feelings of despair with one possible end result being civil unrest.

Slimdown however is a term that is very positive and one that gives a feeling of serenity. It denotes a sense of well-being partially because few among us would not like to slim down. Another way to say slimdown would be right-sizing. All very positive. It's a good thing.

Libs are just pissed that someone came up with a P.C. term for something, and only libs are allowed to dumb everything down with P.C. terms.

I'm hoping the Left keeps making a big deal out of this. That way more people will realize it isn't a shut down at all. The rest of the media seems to prefer the dramatization of "shutdown", so in effect you guys are undercutting them by elevating this line 'outrage'.

I suspect many would like to see this made permanent, excluding progressive of course. SS, Medicare/Medicaid and military fully funded and a chunk of bureaucrats and clerks sent home. I'm guessing many will be asking "what's not to like?".

That isn't what has happened in the past, but I guess you never know. I imagine those in the conservative bubble will be ecstatic while the rest of the country gets pissed off.

The TVs at lunch tuned to CNN were focusing on the 10 children with cancer who are being killed by Republicans because of the shutdown. Or at least that appeared to be the message based on my minimal attention to the idiot box.

...oh wait...he isn't a dictator.

The leadership that is lacking is in the house. When a clean CR can be passed in the house but the speaker won't bring it to a vote because it doesn't meet an arbitrary rule, that's a clear lack of leadership.

Of course you didn't know that because you only get your information from talking points, just like the rest of the drones in this and in the dozens of other threads on this forum.

Ohhh well ain't that cute, Moonpig is just one step away from one of his infamous profanity laced tirades.
You guys are way too tough on him. Moonie is an awesome human being and I can't think of anybody on this forum that I would rather share a couple beers with and solve all the world's problems. In my opinion he's the most misunderstood poster on this forum.

Teahadis do not constitute a majority of the American People, let alone the whole.

They are, in truth, an extreme & radical minority, even in the HOR.

Keep spouting your BS. Radical Islamists aren't Jihadists to you and your ilk but the Tea Party are jihadists? Love the double standards since they show how much of a joke you are.

The Tea Party are patriots who defend the US Constitution and believe in Freedom. They are good Americans.

My guess is you probably went to a Tea Party rally and thought you were such a toughguy and got your ass kicked and then Tea-bagged so it makes you feel special attacking them on an internet forum :D

Those who want to receive tax refunds or passports may not like it.

Partially true:

Get a passport, probably: The Bureau of Consular Affairs is funded by fees rather than appropriated funds, so it will continue to operate, a spokesperson tells NBC Washington. Home State Department passport offices, however, are located in federal buildings that may have shut down, so you should check to see if your preferred passport office is open before visiting.

April 15 passed long ago. Not many people waiting a refund. In any case, most filing now and expecting a refund are better off applying that to this year's tax.

Last I checked the constitution said a bill became law via approval from the house, the senate, and when the president signed it into law. Last I checked, the duty of congress was to fund government and to pass budgets. Last I checked, the process to change or repeal laws was to go through the same process that created the law in the first place.

But what do I know, I'm not a "protector of the constitution" like you are but I do know a hypocrite when I see one.

But hey! Keep wearing your hypocrite and your ignorance badge and continue displaying them proudly!

Good thing you are in Canada where your anti American thinking means jack shit!

Yes. I thought it was due to budget demands (even aside from the ACA), but then the house won't even vote on the clean CR bill the senate passed that has spending at sequester levels.

So all I see is a party that is actually trying to hurt America and Americans and sadly, that isn't hyperbole.

So what is your response to Obama unilaterally enacting a chunk of the Dream Act which did not pass the Congressional process you describe?

Are you even going to condemn him for his statements? Of course not because you're a hypocrite. You claim to support the Constitution but support obama who has violated it numerous times.

You mean allocating government resources to be more efficient and to prioritize various immigration issues? Or are you talking about the federal government supporting various states that have passed their own versions of the dream act?

It's not my job to back up numbers claimed as fact by others- it's their job to do their own homework, and to cite sources. That's pretty much universal.
