why is it that certain parts of the population always accuse other segments of the population of being unable to think for themselves? so it's impossible to think for yourself and come to the same conclusion as that segment of the population accused of not thinking?
Because I see evidence of it all the time. It goes something like this:
1. Someone posts inflamatory, slanted news story on an Internet forum
2. Dozens of people make the knee-jerk reactions that the news agency wanted them to make, and their one line posts don't show any evidence of having thought about the story.
3. Someone comes along and makes a case for the OTHER side of the story.
4. A chorus of "oh... when you put it that way..." erupts
That happens here occasionally, but not as often as other forums because I think we have a slightly above average group here in terms of intelligence and education (that's not to say we don't have a few "outliers"). If you can watch a news story and independently come to the same conclusion the story came to, that's fine. But many people don't put the effort into thinking for themselves, or don't know enough about politics to really understand what's going on.
