dude....go to the police...they will do it for free. the DMV will take both time/money whereas if you have a valid story, the police will do it right then and there. I hoenstly see no reason why you would not go to the police about this

at least give them a call (non-emergency) and explain what's up.....ask them what they need from you, and what they can do

i would check websites for Joliet Catholc Football and/or local churches websites and ask around on their forums if they have any.

Get as much info off the photos as possible and then put together the puzzle :)

there MIGHT be hints on the photos previously overseen - maybe the place where they staid...eg. motels or hotels or similiar ?

I live in Chicago and know people that live in Joliet.

Would be interesting to try to find the owners....

yeah, so it can be filed away with stuff that doesn't need that much attention?

policemen/women have plenty on their plates. cheaparse is doing a favor and making this a higher priority than the cops would have.

Well, I talked with some people and decided calling the PD is not the best idea. I did call the DMV however and was told that there is no possible way they could give out that information. Law enforcement, a lawyer, or court officials have access to that info. Then I found this on the DMVs website.

Confidential information includes, but may not be limited to, an individual's home address (California Vehicle Code Section 1808.21), home telephone number (Government Code Section 6254.3), physical/mental information (California Vehicle Code Section 1808.5), social security number (California Vehicle Code Section 1653.5), and photograph (California Vehicle Code Sections 12800.5 and 13005.5). Confidential home addresses will only be released when the department determines the release is necessary to complete a DMV transaction. Other requests for any confidential information must include a state or federal statute that authorizes or requires the department to release such information.

So someone's contact info is considered confidential and is not public information.

Well there were a number of people on here that were confident the DMV would give out that info. I've never done something like this, so I thought it was worth a shot.

Why did you decide against the PD? Show them the memory card and the picture on the memory card of the license plate. That should be enough proof to show you are just trying to do the right thing.
