wow, that reminds me of a student at RIT who got his laptop stolen. the owner of that laptop didn't care about his laptop, all he wanted was to recover his senior thesis and senior project that was saved on his laptop.

afterwards, i hear nothing. i hope that student passed his senior year. :(

biggest props to OP. cheaparse for elite! :D

UPDATE: My mom called the friend of her's who works at the police station...and because of regulations...she does not have the ability to lookup plates for "un-valid" reasons....since they cannot prove that CheapArse does not have another motive....they cannot simply give out the family's personal info like that. She DID say, however, that if he were togo to his LOCAL police station, and bring the memory card, along with the printed out pictures of the car and license plate...and tell them the whole story...chances are they will run the plates for him and help him out....I'm sorry I couldn't get more info...but regulations are regulations and it's no sense getting someone's job in jepordy over :( Goodluck CheapArse! and let me know if there's anything I can do!

heh  But like I said...all he has to do is print out a few of the pictures of the car and bring in the memory card with his story to his local police dept. and they will be able to look it up for him....any police station can lookup out -of-state plates!
