I wanna do a kind of old-timey car for my pick next week. If nobody has objections because of cost, I'd like to do the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C at A850. This will make upgrades very choosy because it is already at A765.

If there are objections because of cost, I'd like to go with the 1968 Barracuda S at B700.

OBJECTION!!! Just kidding, I just felt like saying something.

The way things are going I won't make it next week, I'll probably be working that night...

Cobra week. This will be nutty. I love the car but it's hard to drive with all that power. I totally recommend nothing but handling upgrades.

Hey anyone seen or heard from spidey?

Actually, now that I think about it I think the Cobra is about $125K. If anyone needs help affording one just ask (well, ask Blowfish :p)

I think it is even more than that. I can purchase one for 50% off at 90k credits. That would put the full price at 180k.

Like I said, if cost is an issue, the Barracuda is more affordable and almost as old-timey.

Hey I am willing to pay for the cars if you guys need them just lmk.

You would need to do your own upgrades etc.

Plus don't forget the auction house.

Ok new game we can try -- Relay.

How it works:

2 teams of 4 cars -- 1 U Class, 1 S Class, 1 A Class, and 1 B Class for each team.

5 laps on one track of our choice (any track other than King Cobra or the ring)

Each team decides which order the cars will race (ie U Class first, B Class second etc)

We all start at the same time as normal but who ever is running lap #1 must be out front -- ALL OTHER TEAM MEMBERS MUST STAY BEHIND THE "LAP CAR".

For example lap 1 is run by the B Class car - all other cars (which are faster) need to stay behind the B Class car at all times. If the "LAP CAR" wrecks your team must come to a complete stop and wait til you are back out in front.

Once the "LAP CAR" reaches the finish line your next car takes the lead and the same rules apply as above. This continues until your last car on lap 4 is complete then it is a free for all for the finish (ie cars can finish in any order).

The object is to get your ENTIRE team across the finish line ... not just one member.

You CANNOT wreck the other team but you can block, bump, hold up the other team etc. Example -- Team 1's "LAP CAR" wrecks and thus the team is parked. Team 2's U Class car could park in front of the other team not letting them go aka block them allowing its team a jump out to a big lead.

Strategy will play an important role in this game since you need to get all of your team across the finish line. The race order will be important as well as staying together in a group to draft.

This shouldn't take any longer to complete than a regular race and less time than 2 C&M races. The good thing is that it won't matter which track we run as well.

Any thoughts? Too Confusing?

The relay game sounds like it could be fun. Might be a bit rough the first time or so trying to get used to it but I'd say it's worth a shot.

One question, though: what happens the first lap? The teams are split up into fours but we run five laps?

First lap is whoever is elected to go first.

Example Team # is OSJ, CK, blowfish, & kabob

The team elects CK to go first -- he will start the 1st lap all his team members need to stay behind him
Lap #2 the team elects OSJ to go next all team members need to stay behind him.
Lap #3 the team elects kabob to go next all team members need to stay behind him.
Lap #4 the team elects blowfish to go next all team members need to stay behind him.

Lap #5 everyone goes as fast as they can to get around to the finish line. No restrictions on order.

Based on the above its important to use a little strategy. For example the U class car may want to go first so it can hold up the other team for the remaining 3 laps and then play catch up on lap 5 since it is the fastest car. Then again you may to do your slow car first and get it out of the way. Who knows.

The only other way to do relay (and it is easier) is to have 1 person from each team go around the track. All other cars wait on the side of the road until their team member comes around then that person pulls over and the new car goes out on the track and then so on. The only issue here is that you only race for one lap and then sit for 3 but you still have to finish the race so it can end.

I guess we could do it as a 2 lap race and set the time limit really long. Each car makes a lap and then pulls over to let their team member go for their lap then repeat etc.

Queasy,

Can I make a suggestion on the Cobra?

You can't get any tire upgrades without going to S class. Can we make it an S Class Cobra but add the stipulation of no engine upgrades?

Well I could tell ya but then I would have to kill ya.;)

I'll give you a hint ... it's one of the cars we have driven on race nights over the last 6 months. :p

Greg

EDIT -- If things hold the way they have been the last several weeks OSJ and I will be driving the same car, LOL! It's weird on the weeks where there has been a "choice" he and I have been picking the same car. Unfortunately he still beats my a$$ most of the time though so it's definitely not the car!!

Waldo: You just want to spy on us by starting practice sessions! :p For serious, though, I hope as a group we've improved enough to challenge you. And personally, I hope I've become consistent enough to challenge you without there being some outside intervention (like a wreck or something). Outside of a few tracks, our lap times were always pretty close.

Blowfish: Nope, I doubt we'll be running the same thing this week. :) My pick comes from what I drove during one of the open weeks. As far as I can recall, you haven't driven the same thing.

You sir are correct. Mine are from dedicated weeks.

Greg

BTW I will go ahead and host tonight. I'll send out invites to whoever is on at 8:50 to try and get things going a little early.

Should be around tonight. Cable/power are still out and messed up all over the city from Ike so we'll see how it goes. I can't seem to remember what car we were running when I did so well and won a bunch of races. It was within the last 2 months. But I'll probably bring two cars - one for speed tracks and another for handling (cough, lotus, cough)

I am rusty. Very rusty. The car I picked doesn't lend itself well to on/off throttle so was trying to practice that some.

I'll go ahead and tell you that my first choice was the Lotus Elise. That car is just fun to drive! Then I had to go be different and pick my current ride. I don't know what kind of lap times you guys are pulling nowadays so its hard to judge it's competitiveness. I recall a 1:31 on Laguna which wasn't so hot. I think I pulled close to 1:20 with the Lotus on the same track back when I was racing full time with you guys. Hope to do a little more tweaking with the ARB and suspension tonight before the green flag.

If I'm not mistaken, the top time for an A850 Elise around Laguna is 1:21.xxx. I've done it in 1:25.1xx in the Elise and 1:25.7 or 1:25.8 in my ride for this week. It's got enough speed to be either my personal best or right up there around Road Atlanta, as well. I really like it a lot.

I need to do a little more driving in it before tonight but that's mainly to get more accustomed to not using ABS. Just switched that off this week. I'm digging not having it on but it takes a little getting used to.

To the group: apologies in advance if I lock my brakes up and you're behind me! :p

Well I think my lap times will be right in there with OSJ with the car I am running. I will most likely run the same car all night but on Tsukuba I am probably going to run my "short track" 110% handling car as that will do better than my main car.

In all honesty when picking a car for this week I NEVER imagined that my final choice would have been the one I am using. I was all set to run the mini or mugen and well I went a completely different way. I was very tempted to run the M3 again as I got along really well with that car 2 weeks ago.

Spidey nice to see you are still around!! Did you get the car I sent you? I got it cheap on the AH and thought you could use it. No need to return it, it's yours.

See you guys tonight.
