Ford really comes close to success on some car like this. However the Cadillac front and and the "it must be a joke" bling around the taillight is going to scare away many prospective buyers. Great try on Ford's part with this car, too bad it is hideous =(
The Taurus was actually replaced with 2 vehicles. The 500 is larger and the Fusion is smaller than the out-going Taurus.Originally posted by: ultimatebob

It's definitely a step up from the miserable failure that the 500 is, but Ford still has a long way to go.
The 500 is a larger sedan that competes more with the Maxima and Avalon.
And at 9k units a month, it's not a miserable failure.
The Fusion is a mid-size Taurus replacement.
Despite the lower price, I still wouldn't pick it over an Altima or Mazda 6.
I thought that the 500 was the replacement for the Taurus, no? If that's the case, I guess that this car is the long awaited replacement to the Contour.
Well, it has J Mays styling cues all over it, and he is the KING of clean lines. I'm really shocked how posters keep comparing it to the new Cadillacs. Hell no. Obviously they can't translate the 2-D picture into what it will look like in 3-D reali life. This has almost identical lines to the previous generation Jetta/A4 (which Mays designed), but with an sharp new-American look. Great IMO (except for the taillights). I predict the driving experience will be very similar to the Mazda 6 (same drivetrain), but priced less, and that Ford will have a real Accord/Camry killer here. This isn't a Taurus replacement, this is the car that'll make everyone forget the Taurus ever existed. Hotcakes, I'm tellin' ya, it'll sell like hotcakes.Originally posted by: Toasthead

Wow, that was insightful. This is probably Detroit's best effort in years at the bread and butter mid-sized market
I am thinking the Hyundai '07 Elantra will even outsell those. Too bad they didn't come out with the refresh this year or I would have gone for the Elantra.Originally posted by: sniperruff
the new hyundai sonata will easily outsell it. the true savior of ford/GM are fleet sales to government agencies.
