No, Gavin's link is working....that's the English version. MAMAFUFU's link is to the Chinese pages.

R U using IE5 or upwards?
U might be getting that annoying "page not found" thing...just press "refresh" and it should appear 🙂
It just did it for me too 🙁

wow, hong kong people! Nei Ho! 😎

I'm thinking of getting a new system, probably just a Motherboard, CPU, RAM, GFx Card, and HD. Where do you recommend? Videocom and ANA seem to be good price-wise. What about in Mong Kok, I usually do my shopping there.

I'm looking for them to put it together for me aswell, are there any places that do a good careful job with this? PCs I've had done in the past work ok, but not much care has been put in, ie. hdd led is same colour as power led, and power on button is where reset button should be!

I'm thinking an Athlon Thunderbird 1.2 Ghz, any ideas what the best motherboard would be for this CPU?

Cheers.

I'm in Tai Wai, btw 😉

KT7A

btw, why are the ram so expensive in HK? I can get 256MB pc133 for CDN$141 tax included in Toronto.

Alfred

gtg, the link works only for Netscape. I dunno what's wrong with IE. It just won't load no matter how many times I click refresh.

MAMAFUFU

Heh. If we are close enough I can throw you a Cat-5 cable to share my broadband.

Btw, NEC 256MB PC145 CL2 VC-RAM Videocom is only $520 today. Hurry up. 😉

Andy Hui Chi On 😎

Jardine's Lookout in CWB sounds like upper class. I work in Wanchai, not too far away for a drink together after office hour.

Gavin

Sounds good. But if with LAN party it'd be perfect, can we? 😉

Yeah....I think HKGolden.com gets their prices directly from that. I've joined up as a member for quite a while now, but there's not that much there that HKGolden.com doesn't already have.

errr... I can't believe I have missed all this.... hopefully I am not too outdated.

1) any mainland company can buy Micron chips and put them in a PCB, they suck, I have of them
but paying 25 bucks to ship is plain waste of cash.

2) the first revision of KingMax Suck, the 2nd one improved a bit and the final one is supposed to be on Crucial level.

3) All hk Yan are See Lai la...

4) Apacer use Infineon Ram too, pretty good stuff, I benchmarked my Apacer with a Mushkin Rev2, same result yeild from Sisandra mem mark. not sure about Overclockability.

5) ahfung, if AndyHui is Chi On, then I am Lauu Tak Wah then! 🙂

Quick question, where is the best price/quality place to get an Enermax 350W EG351P-VE ATX 2.03 in HK?
This is the Whisper w/ 2 fans(not the golden colored ones), right?

ahfung,
We might need a "bucketfull" of trailer plugs - what is it with HK homes and like two sockets per room???
hehe

Oh we should have a dedicate thread up with all the HK stuff inside.... The site is cool ah fung, though not very useful for me as I am in the states most of the time....

hey hey, i am interested in know, for all of you HK guys/gals, how did you get hook up with AnandTech? Maybe a bit OT, but i'd love to know.

Was a coincidence i saw the thread entitled 'For Those in Hong Kong' 😉

I didn't think there were any Hong Kong people round here!

rominl: i was in the states when I first heard of anandtech, linked from Firingsquad. meanwhile, anandtech is quite popular (compare to other sites) in HK, some store "use" anandtech benchmark results to pimp their products (check the third floor in 298 for a heatsink store... that place is hardcore.

and I am still in the states, I ask for a job in Paradise during the summer... but they rejected me like any cute girls would... 🙁

and yeah, there are more HK ppl now,
me say hi to gtd2000, 14k, Biggs, and other HK ppl 🙂

Gavin: bahaha.....Congratulations....but I highly doubt that you will get a discount....I've been a diamond member for this long and I still don't get anything special, even though I pimp places like P@radise....

AndyLawCC: yeah...that shop shows all the AT benchmarks for the various coolers and heatsinks.

I've actually never been in the 298 - I'll have a look next time I visit my mate who lives in Wan Chai
which is the easiest MTR exit to get to it - Southhorn?

whao... Andy, you know that store too, Ah Fung kinda knew that guy... he's cool and nice...

and gtd2000, to get to 298, take MTR Wan Chai, I think its Exit B, the one to the far right... and you will see the Tram track, follw the Tram and walk back to Causeway Bay along Hennessy Road, and there you will see 298. before Park and Shop and a Mc Donald.

and there's another big computer place like 298 in Wanchai, which is DIRECTLY above Wan Chai's MTR, RIGHT NEXT to the McDonald next to SouthHorn Park. you will see a bunch of CTI idoits who said 56k is faster than 1.5m.

hhaha, cool, it's glad that a lot of HK people read about AnandTech. This is no doubt my favorite site, and the forum is simply outstanding.

Andylawcc: do you go back often? maybe you can go back during summer and get a part time at P@radise again 🙂 hope they will get you, coz' i heard there are more people getting new computers in summer.

too bad i won't be going back to HK for quite some time, otherwise i would definitely go to the heatsink shop you guys mentioned and see the familiar benchmarks 😉

damn, to show off my curiosity, what else do you guys wanna see from AnandTech? Chinese? Anything else?

The problem with 298 is that it is exactly half-way between Causeway Bay MTR and Wanchai MTR. Yeah....Southorn exit, or the exit closest to 130 Computer City itself....in front of the McDonalds beneath the overpass. Turn right, walk all the way down past the Caltex petrol station, you should be able to see the massive 298 sign hanging across Hennessey Road. If you can't find it, it's the escalators going up right next to the USA Cafe Restaurant. You've gone too far if you are in front of the Jockey Club outlet.

andy, how long has that "new" 298 type thing been there? last time i went back was in 1999, and i did't notice that. is it as crowded as the 298?

yeah, those idiots puts every piece of lies up... last time the guy told me i will get a scanner by going online, and the scanner is important coz' i will NEED that to get online. i was like, "whoa? maybe you can start using your scanner as the keyboard."

rominl: you know what I want to see? I know it's not motherboards, but I want to see a quick comparison of all video cards stretching all the way back to the Voodoo1, just to see how far we have come in graphics....using something like Q2 and Q3 as a simple benchmark. Sometimes I still get asked by people which is better: the Riva 128, i740 or a Savage 3 or 4.....and I just have no idea.
