For the nth time, I'm gonna try to play Baldur's Gate 2.

When you kill Arain Linvail he has some nice stuff. I think Bohdi just gives you some misc low-level equipment.

For someone new to old school RPGs and has a low concentration span, which RPG would you recommend?

I will be playing on a 12.1" tablet PC (Intel X3100), but not necessarily using the touch screen. Me thinks the options are BG2, IWD2 or NWN1?

Thanks!

The beholder below the Temple district turned out to be a pussy for my level 19 undead hunter. Toughest fight I've had so far was a bone golem summoned by the tanner. That thing even killed me once before I switched from swords to mace and war hammer.

I went with Bodhi for the first time for my recent evil-run and I'm pretty sure the rewards are exactly the same. If you go with Bodhi, you get access to the lair, where you can, strangely enough, still get the Mace of Disruption (you'd think vampires wouldn't keep an undead-destroying mace in their own lair... oh well).

When you go with Aran Linvail, he gives you a bunch of stuff - when you kill him, you get the same items.

Now that I've experienced Bodhi, I'd still much rather go with the Shadow Thieves - the entire time I was in the shadow thief complex I was constantly paranoid of thieves going invisible and backstabbing you (it's a backstab even if he hits you in the front! Stupid game mechanics...). Plus, vampires give more EXP anyway. They do level drain, though, which can be a pain if you're not immune to it or don't have a way to cure it without a temple.

Some beholders still cast spells :D I found this out the hard way when I got imprisoned by the spell and not a beholder ray. I believe The Unseeing Eye is one of these Beholder Mages. He can be a pain sometimes, because even after you use the rod, he has a thing for contingency'ing in a Protection from Magical Weapons...

And I would argue that the Robe of Vecna ranks very high up there in the "best xxx gold you'll ever spend" if you have a sorceror.

Just rescued the actors from the plane prison. Nice place to get experience. Cleaned all the portals. :)

I had to use my pet spider a couple of times in there. She killed the warden all by herself while I was dispatching his thralls. :D

Oh, I did meet my first lich. Killed it and his fiend and got a gold torso. I know what it's for but I cannot open the secret door in the temple sewers even with 25 strength. Might need to recruit a thief just to open it so I can go kill another lich.

If you're talking about what I think you are talking about: It cant be picked. You need to come up from the other side (end of another quest) or wait for a quest to be completed or have some progress and then it just opens.
(I think.)

A little OT, sorry:

Has anyone figure out how to completely get rid of graphical corruption in BG1?

I downloaded every patch I could find and there's still a black box around spells and various objects (such as birds flying overhead).

The BG2 engine is a little better.
I recommend you install both games and then use a program called Baldurs Gate Tutu. It ports over the game of BG1 to the BG2 engine.

The BG2 engine also has better graphical settings in the Config program outside the game.

I think I mentioned this above.

See the fix here (involving the compatibility toolkit).

I had this problem in BG2 (had a post here about it; too lazy to search sorry) - I believe the remedy was to go into the BG2 config and turn on Vector Padding (which was a fix for old Nvidia cards, but also happened to work for my NEW Nvidia card).

I've tried the fix and messed around with any configuration I could.

Going to software BLT fixed eveything but made the game extremely sluggish (basically unplayable).

Other than that the black boxes around birds and butterflies, spells and the items on dead bodies won't go away.

I tried compatibility for Windows 98 but that froze the game.

Yeah - I downloaded the toolkit and followed the directions as closely as I could but no luck.

That's strange, disabling triple buffering temporarily always seemed to do it for me.

so I just completed BG2 for the first time, as a kensai/mage (yeah yeah..). What a game! From what I see of ToB (first major quest completed), it's even better. Even the music is much improved. Unlike the first game my character actually feels really powerful now. I'm just ripping through enemies almost as quickly as they come.

OK. I have a problem. I'm in Underdark, waiting near the illithid city entrance for a drow party to help me rescue a matron daughter. Got there in only one hour (I was supposed to be there in under 12). Problem is, no one is showing up. Am I waiting in the wrong spot?

Character is now at Level 35. Cleaned the Beholder Lair rather easily. Illithid City was a bit tougher (I died often) but feasible. However, I tried to save my circlets to upgrade my Shield Of Harmony, so I turned into the Slayer to open the Mother Brain lair door. That made me a fallen undead hunter so I reset myself to before I entered the city and went to the Drow city instead, where I got that quest. Therefore I'll have to clean the illithid city again later.

OK. I got tired so I simply stormed the drow city and took the dragon eggs by force. Gonna go gain a few levels killing beholders, then clean the illithid city again, then go back and exterminate all drows I find (there aren't many survivors after I went angel of death on them), before going to give the eggs to the silver dragon.
