For the nth time, I'm gonna try to play Baldur's Gate 2.

Yup. I'm already up to level 40. Those baby beholders kill themselves shooting rays at me. Each fight lasts less than a minute and nets me 27k experience. Think I might spend the afternoon tomorrow reaching level 60 or 70 before I exit. :D

You may have already fixed the issue, but if any other issues arise, I found enabling 16 bit color and turning off hardware acceleration works wonders for graphical problems.

If you are going to solo, F/M/T is the "god" class, especially if you have experience cap removed (which is a must anyway :p). Otherwise I'd go monk or F/M. I know there are a lot of traps in the game but you can always use summons to test the corridors for you, whereas F/T is a level below offensively/defensively. I think monk would follow after that. Damn BG2 was so fun.

That's it, I'm going to set aside a block of time and install all these and finally get the tweaks/mods right somehow.

that's insane! solo-ing really nets you a ton of extra XP. i think my party of 6 was 35-40 after completing TOB :Q

I forget if he made it back or not, BUT, he did make lots of babies and they were all a little

Sounds like he used his time wisely :) I know thats how I would spend my year on earth "makin babies" :)

For looks, basically the only ones I know of are the Widescreen mod, and the mods from One Pixel Productions that fix the inventory paperdolls and weapon icons.

Yeah, those are essential.

For gameplay fixes, the G3 fixpack, which is the first mod you should install -- just after the official patch.

I also like the Unfinished Business mod, which restores/adds in a bunch of small quest bits. Beyond that, add whichever new NPCs you want to take along.

I could never figure this out, when in the install order should Ashes of Embers and Divine Remix go? I thought I had it figured out but I had a failed install of BG2 from just installing them haphazardly and I read somewhere that certain mods should come first.

The safest thing is to install them in order of original release, with some exceptions (like, obviously, the Fixpack).

Yeah, I think what happened was that I was adding the fix packs first after the game and patch and then Ashes of Embers and Divine Remix further modified those files, and caused it to crash every time.

Heh, I played Baldur's Gate for a few days but never got out of the first city (I'm assuming there was more to it...) I accidentally attacked a guard then discovered I was basically invincible and killed everyone. Now my game CDs are ruined. :(

What the hell? How does your game CD and a bug in the game have anything to do with each other? Or did you smash the discs up in anger by mistake?

Bobsmith - I'm assuming you mean BG 2.

Not finding your way out of Candlekeep after a few days of playtime would be pretty bad ;)

Which 'fix packs' are currently the best? There's quite a few out, but I know some of them are outdated and superseded by others.

Yeah, BG2. I'm guessing Candlekeep is pretty small?? (-->hasn't played BG1)

No, they sat around for years and some goop got on them that I couldn't clean off. :p

That's pretty damn impressive. If I picked up Baldur's Gate 2 and never played Baldur's Gate, I'd say the first impression (the dungeon) is pretty bad and kind of confusing.

Candlekeep is pretty big but like most things in Baldurs' Gate, mostly devoid of any content. It was basically a big castle with an outer courtyard composed of a barracks, an inn, a temple, some monk quarters, and a underground training celler. All of this was placed in an area roughly equivalent to Umar Hills, and is actually one of the

It's a low level, introduction adventure though. Baldur's Gate 2 has a lot of area content which can definitely fluster new players.

The user score on metacritic is a little higher on the original than the sequel (probably out of nostaglia).

OK. Got my 5 tears of Bhaal and placed 4 into 4 of the eyes in Hell. Good to see some nice 'gifts' from each tear tocompensate for my dexterity loss.

Tomorrow I'll place the fifth one. I presume that will open a gateway to Irenicus and another showdown.

My lone Undead Hunter is still lawful good and has not fallen yet. :)

I've soloed Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhaal with a Fighter/Mage/Thief. It was a lot of fun.

Man, that is going WAY back...

I'm playing on core rules. My nemesis remains the shadow dragon. I decided to ignore him in the end.

Here are my stats just before using the final tear.

When I used it, that sucker called forth a bunch of fiends and attacked me even though I had sanctuary activated, was invisible and wearing a cloak of nondetection. He should not have noticed me at all. Maybe initiated the dialogue but definitely not attacked. The other creatures in hell did not notice me. At any rate, Myriam only lasted a couple of minutes before he cast imprisonment (I never found a magic item that makes her immune or at least more resistant to it). Wish I had a couple of illithid circlets left to turn his fiends against themselves.

Well, I'll try again this evening. Will summon my improved phase spider and 4 skeleton warriors before I use the tear. Then I'll try to lure/overextend his forces while he spends his spells agains my creatures.

Not sure why they have us fight Irenicus twice though. Why not have him do this on the elf tree? Just so our party can go to Hell? Or is it because I play a party of one and can't see a difference (maybe not all the party goes to Hell but just the main character).

Anyway, I can't wait to finish this game and install Might & Magic VI again. I did not find BG2 much fun.
