I mean, yea. I'd rather either post to get information, or to express my opinion. Many threads are just enjoyable to read, and don't require feed back.

That sums it up. And some of you guys/gals are real snappish with some of the things you say and I can't really see myself aruging over the internet over spelling, grammer or the dreaded REPOST! so I don't really say anything

I would say I'm an introvert, unless I know the people really well. I guess I'd rather listen that run my mouth though

I usually only post where I know something about the question asked. That and I'm only lurking for an hour or so in the evenings when I'm not chasing/diapering the kids or bonking the wife.

lazyness. and most of the intelligent things that I have to say have been said already by the time I read a thread, therefore I dont post often.

Well, I didn't hit "Senior" until this year. I have always enjoyed these forums, since the old one. I have "lurked" through almost all of the sections. Truth is, I intially signed up because I wanted to see all the options the new forum had as far as the user settings went. Basically I was selfish and wanted to control my surrounding when I lurked. Stupid reason, maybe, but it was justified to me. Also with being in the military, I was not always home to get involved in topics, but when I got back, I would start reading through what I missed.

When I became an instructor and found myself with a stable job, no more going away or 12 hour shifts through the weekend, I decided to get more involved in discussions. I still lurk more than I post, but to me that is what these forums are about. There are plenty of members who take up the slack!

Hope this gives you a little insight into the dark mind of a lurker 😉

Yep I've been lurking consistently since 1999. Just like when I'm at a party, I'm the shady guy in the shadows keeping a keen eye on everyone else 😉

We all see the nefs; they don't need a reason to post. But sometimes I see some lurker, registered as far back as 99 with a post count of under fifty, post in a thread and I can't for the life of me figure out why they chose that thread to post in. What exactly does it take to draw a lurker out into the nefarious world of commenting?

sometimes i wonder if those tricky mods open an account to stir up some trouble 😛 An awful lot of people with 2 posts that registered in "October 1999"

ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding!!!! Give the man a prize.

Hello Mod.

I go on spurts....sometimes, I get into it and post my thoughts and other times, I just check out what people are talking about

umm, because most of the time its been said already 🙂

Agreed. I will add something to the comments about Rain. If I remember correctly there was a similar thread a year or so ago asking people with the lowest post counts to make an appearance. I was at around ~30 or so at the time. Out of the blue Rain posts and blows everyone out of the water with his post count of 1. It's an anandtech classic. 🙂

Hrmmm... Wasnt it around Oct 1999 with the buy.com Hitachi Monitor deal? I know I joined around that time cuz of Hot Deals. Then I promptly forgot about it since living the college life was more important than posting on AT. But now after graduating with no job in sight 🙁. I have a ton of free time on my hands.

Most of the topics presented really do not, most of the time, require any input from me.

I think the reverse question could be asked, why do many of you folks feel that you have to post anything on every thread out there? I get the feeling that some people think it is abnormal to be a member for a while yet not post often, then why is it considered normal to spend the majority of your time posting on some internet forum?

Somebody asked, don't feel like finding the actual quote, do people who lurk and not post act like that in real life; here is a question then: those that post on every topic even if completely irrelevent/useless, do you do that in real life? Have the urge to put your two cents into every conversation?

Look at it from the other side as well.

I don't think it's per se "normal" to spend a lot of time posting, but it is normal for these folks. I think it's more normal to spend time and post than to spend time and not post, so I was curious about you unique peoples. 🙂

Spending time to post is simple writing, correct? I would have assumed that the majority of people are readers and not writers. Else, everybody would have their publications sold in Barnes and Noble. Therefore I would consider it more 'normal' (silly symantics) for people to read information/thoughts then to constantly be writing it.

That, and to give a more practical and realistic explanation, due to my work schedule and real life activities I don't get to surf the net but late at night, and because of that simply do not have enough time to 'waste' replying to threads where the same thing has been said many times.

I would assume many people who have jobs that are not conducive to reading and replying to messageboards as well as have active lifestyles probably do not post too often on any messageboard.

hehe,
i gess its coz, for me ,jus readin d stuff u guys post is enuff..i usually only post new threads..seldom do i reply!!

I guess you could call me a lurker, I usually post when I feel I can contribute to the wellness of the thread 😀

I don't post often because a) I usually cannot contribute to the thread or b) My internet connection is too fooking slow and why waste time that I could be spending by reading all the other good posts?

its more like a sex change 😛

Blame it on Adul.

What does Mrs. Honeybee think of the change?

She's a little unnerved about it because now it means I'm a lesbian and shes' a lesbian.

But the toilet seat is never left up 😀

I think I respected the Grand Nagus title a little more when it was coming from Office Guy 6... 😉
I have now taken possession of Office Guy 6. 😀
