This is not meant to incite any flaming or such, I know in the past a lot of members on this board tend to look down on religion. So I'm just curious if you don't believe in God or religion do you still partake in christmas celebrations?

Personally I don't celebrate the holiday considering that the origins or the date have nothing to do with Jesus or when he was born. I've also talked to people in the past who were so disgusted by the commercialization of the day that the refuse to participate as well. Just curious what some of ATOT's thoughts are on the holiday.

Disclaimer: If you do celebrate Christmas this post is'nt a knock against you, enjoy the day with your friends and family. :)

"join in the circle when everyone gets together to pray for christmas dinner. "

I use that time to think about how thankful I am to have a family. I don't actually pray.

Yeah I do. Christians stole the holiday from pagans. As an atheist, I steal it from Christians :)

I guess it depends on who you talk to. I know of families who attend church on christmas and view it as a spiritual holiday.

I celebrate time with family, because I don't get much of it anymore.

seriously. christmas has about as much to seriously do with religion now as my left ball

i enjoy giving gifts, doing things for others, spending time with some people, and a handful of the songs.

also, not working. that part is cool.

I'm a flamin' agnostic and I celebrate Christmas to the extent that those I'm around and care about at Christmas time celebrate Christmas. The religious aspect doesn't mean much to me.

I just got back from Christmas dinner. While they prayed, I eyed up the mac salad. There was no discussion of Jesus, beyond that. No problem at all.

I don't even know what celebrating christmas means actually. I eat food with my family and and give them little presents, I don't know if that qualifies as celebrating or not.

I think there should be a special holiday in which people are happy and give and receive cool stuff. Christmas is as good a time for that holiday as any. The religious origins of the holiday doesn't often enter my mind...or any one else's I think.

Xmas is a holiday where I spend time with family and mark the winter solstice. There's nothing religious about it.

This holiday has some great music though. :music:
Work retail sometime. You'll learn to hate every last bit of Christmas music after hearing it day after day for more than a month.

It's as good an excuse as any to get drunk with the family. Even though I'm the only declared atheist in the family no one else is particularly religious so it's all gravy.
