For reference, it is snowing in Northern Virginia.

cold as balls and expecting 20" (I'll believe it when I see it)
VDOT is pretty solid at dealing with snow on the roads so MEH

Twenty inches? Damn, I just checked again and that is indeed the "high" (they're calling 14-20). I wonder if this snow will clear up before the one we're expecting thursday....damn, driving up to New York is gonna suck.

There's more snow expected on Thursday?? It will indeed be a White Christmas

edit: just checked it'll be like 45-50 on 12/24-25

That's what I heard. WTOP says a 50% chance of snow on thursday, though that could easily change.

I wish it was warm enough to snow here...-10°F is not a great motivator for leaving the house and going into work on a Friday morning.

Too warm fro a sweatshirt today. Kinda nice, around 75 or so. Last few weeks were downright frigid! Had highs of like 58! Way too cold for me.

Had about an inch a few weeks ago here in Northern Tennessee. A few inches expected over the weekend. It is raining right now, just a hair above freezing.

If we get as much as predicted VDOT will be overwhelmed. At the foot mark idiots just start randomly leaving their cars parked in the middle of the road when they get stuck.

OK, I dunno when it started, but by 3'Oclock the neighborhood was covered in it. Still coming down slowly.
I see a few tracks in parking spaces already, so some of the night owls already discovered it.
Tomorrow, I go foraging for supplies. Then hunker down for the winter.

Still loads of snow coming down in Vienna, my property manager is outside shoveling the sidewalk for people to come into the office...yeah right.

My students started spreading a rumor that if Monday gets cancelled this week, we don't have to come Tuesday or Wednesday...here's hoping it's true and we can head out early for the holidays!

I'm one of those Northernors but I definitely don't drive like I do up in MI, mainly because everyone else here drives like ass anyway.

Still a good amount of snow coming down in DC. I'm helping a friend move today and this white shit is really making things difficult.

I'm gonna go start shovelling...I don't know if this makes any sense considering it'll just build back up again in a few hours. Is it easier to do two smaller shovels rather than one large one? Either way, my dog will like running around in the snow.

two? if you do it now, and later in the afternoon, you'll STILL have to go at it tomorrow morning.

But I'm debating that myself. only problem is, there's no where to put all this snow that's around our cars....

Just so you know:
I spent the first 18 years of my life in Minnesota and I was stationed in Iceland for a year and a half.

My personal opinion is its better to do two small snow clearings. It also gives you a chance to check on your vehicle. WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Make sure it starts, make sure everything checks out. Make sure you can move it if you have to.

EDIT: Mother had me take pics of her house before I cleared the driveway. Will post later.

Still coming down after about 16 hours or so. I'm south of the city in Stafford, VA.

I am really lucky. I'm working mid shift right now (2100 - 0500) and happen to have Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights off.

Interstates could look a bit better. Check out the traffic cams.

11 inches on my back porch when I woke up this morning. Yay! except that it may mess up my weekend plans. We never get snow like this though.

Just received this message on my cell and email:

THE NWS HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST THIS EVENING...
..WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO

Sorry for the poor photo. I didnt feel like messing with the manual controls at the time.
This was earlier. As of right now the snow is over the top of the step and most people have to force their glass doors through a snow pile to get them open. I cleared off my mothers driveway already and will do her deck this afternoon.

Thanks for the tips. I have a check I need to drop off and cameras show the main road looking decent. Now's as good a time as any to check on the car.

p.s.
How was Iceland? From what I understand it has a relatively mild climate for a northern country.

*Edit: Screw it, I'm just gonna walk. Will take a while but it's not like I'm in a big hurry or anything.
